eDNA Platform Manager
Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute (GMGI) is an exciting independent research institute that is addressing critical challenges facing our oceans, human health, and the environment through innovative scientific research and education. GMGI is looking for an innovative and highly motivated Manager to help design, implement, and lead an ongoing effort to establish a program with the goal of processing eDNA samples for external collaborators and clients.
The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with eDNA experience, excellent communication skills, and an ability to assess and capitalize on market opportunities. This position is an extraordinary opportunity for a dynamic and entrepreneurial scientist to contribute to building a world-class research institute.

Responsibilities:
- Support and develop the staff and operations of the GMGI eDNA Platform
- Work closely with Research staff to define and lead the overall direction of the eDNA Platform, establishing key strategic goals, and set priorities and performance expectations
- Conduct detailed market analysis and establish GMGI eDNA business plan
- Expand GMGI's target offerings and client base
- Contribute to the standardization of eDNA protocols, bioinformatic pipelines, and results reporting
- Interface with clients before, during, and after project completion
- Re-evaluate pricing structure and provide quotes for prospective clients
- Develop a web presence and contribute to marketing
- Foster partnerships with organizations and stakeholders in other eDNA sectors (sample collection, eDNA innovation)
- Balance multiple projects with a high level of proficiency and productivity
- Contribute to fund raising activities and community outreach as requested
- Advanced degree in biology, molecular biology, marine biology, or related discipline with 3+ years of research experience
- Experience in all aspects of eDNA collection, processing (DNA extraction, qPCR, ddPCR, metabarcoding), bioinformatics, data analysis, and reporting
- Knowledge of eDNA service business strategies, market analysis, and client landscape
- Proven success in designing and executing a scientific plan; experience initiating, negotiating and managing strategic programs.
- Familiarity with the command line interface, Linux, and R
- Excellent judgment, interpersonal and communication skills, and commitment to high ethical standards
- Fantastic teamwork skills for success in a collaborative and dynamic environment
- Integrity towards scientific research and data quality
- Capable of working in a start-up environment, with work changing to adapt to needs
- Enthusiasm and commitment to GMGI's mission for science and education
- Self-starting, independent, creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills
