One year contract position with benefits and paid PTO.
Roles/Responsibilities:
Perform research on neurodevelopment and neuroprotection using primary cells in culture and in vivo mouse models.
Design and perform experiments: maintain stem cells, primary neurons and plan all details to understand the role of GPCR ligands in:
Neurogenesis/stem cell differentiation. Neurite growth, synaptogenesis Signaling/gene expression Recovery in mouse models of spinal cord injury
Analyze the data, summarize and prepare reports for presentation and/or publication
Sharing technical knowledge with staff and trainees on biochemical and cell biological experiments: including reporter assays, cell culture, biochemical, immunocytochemical and molecular biological, and confocal microscopic imaging procedures.
General laboratory responsibilities:
Prepare purchase request forms for laboratory supplies. Assist junior lab members in all basic laboratory procedures and safe procedures. Provide support for the use of common laboratory equipment. Perform genotyping of mouse lines. Maintain the mouse lines. Build experimental setups necessary for the on-going research.
Minimum Qualifications:
MS in biochemistry, cell biology, neuroscience
At least 2 years of experience in maintaining and primary neural cell culture and differentiation into neurons
Experience in mouse surgery including spinal cord injury
At least 2 years of experience in immunocytochemistry and confocal microscopy (experience with Zeiss microscopy is preferred)
Demonstrated expertise in cell-based in vitro assays; qPCR, western blotting, cAMP assay, calcium assay, synaptogenesis
Experience in FACS analysis
Able to independently analyze data, troubleshoot, and solve problem
Excellent record keeping, ability to follow precise steps in a protocol
Experience with Microsoft office like Excel, Graph Pad prism for data analysis is preferred
Ability to work independently
