Looking for a visionary in creating the strategic plan for the Education Department in conjunction with the Director of Education with input from all other conservation education staff.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Develops and implements comprehensive STEAM programming aligned with the zoo's conservation message.
  • Manages staff who lead conservation education programs including continuing education and training.
  • Finds opportunities for team development. Formulates long-range plans for employees.
  • Uses Altru and CampBrain to list and promote programs. Keeps diligent client records.
  • Has timely communication and delegates tasks as needed.
  • Provides oversight of promotion, budgeting, registration, program development, delivery and evaluation of all programs in the Department.
  • Keeps detailed statistical and feedback reports of all programming to complete end of year reporting for the Friends annual report and AZA.
  • Establishes relationships with community partners and all clients to make sure needs are being met and the overall success of the programming.
  • Focuses on DEIA initiatives in all programming and hiring.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of the Conservation Education Department Policies and Procedures Manual and enforcing said items within.
  • Emulates and upholds the standards for the department; coaches staff when corrective action is needed in a professional manner.
  • Assists with delivery of programs as needed.
  • Manages the schedule for program staff and resources to cover programming.
  • Maintains good relationships with Education Volunteers; attends volunteer meetings to recruit volunteers as needed.
  • Maintains a clean & neat appearance and enforces the zoo's dress code for all direct reports.
  • Must be available to work the entire summer. This includes staff training days prior to opening of camp, and 8-9 weeks of camp.

Desired Training and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, zoology, biology, environmental science, social work, art, recreation management or related field.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with children in a school, zoo, nature center, childcare, or other educational setting with a focus on implementing curriculum.
  • A minimum of 4 years previous supervisory experience.
  • Previous camp program administration.
  • Experience working with a variety of different learner abilities.
