Environment, Health, and Safety/Chemical Hygiene Officer

Principle Tasks
  • Direct the creation of and provide training and EH&S drills; support new employee onboarding related to EH&S; reinforce workplace safety and support a company culture that prioritizes safety
  • Establish and enforce safety procedures for working with chemicals and equipment
  • Design and implement occupational safety policies, guidelines, and standards to establish their consistency with accepted engineering principles and practices and recommend technical changes as required
  • Responsible for compliance with all Federal, State, and Local policies and regulations including completing all OSHA and environmental reports such as OSHA, RCRA, SARA, and EPA reports per scheduled deadlines.
  • Identify areas of organizational vulnerabilities and maintain strong continuous improvement initiatives; direct process enhancements to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root cause and develop plans to prevent recurrence; communicate lessons learned to organization.
  • Provide support in the identification, analysis, and control of occupational hazards requiring the application of engineering knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Maintain records and documentation related to compliance and training; review reports and documentation of audits performed, including incident investigation processes to identify, eradicate, or control hazardous conditions resulting from human error and/or equipment and machine operations that may lead to human injury and/or property or product damage
  • Take initiative to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and upgrade laboratory technology to maintain the integrity of the laboratories and improve efficiency
  • Responsible for follow-up on suggested corrective actions; use near misses and incidents as parameters to measure progress toward the attainment of factory/plant safety goals.
  • Ensure At-risk-behaviors and At-risk-conditions are addressed


Edu/ Training/ Exp Required
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, engineering, biological sciences, manufacturing or similar from an accredited college/university.
  • 5+ years of post-graduate experience in manufacturing facility in a technical EH&S role.
  • Advanced understanding of Chemical Safety and Regulatory requirements including the appropriate handling of hazardous materials
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills and risk management and mitigation skills
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate in writing and verbally with a variety of teams, stakeholders and end users
  • Advanced use of spreadsheets and/or database software to plan, analyze, and report on projects, experimental data, and logs.
  • Must be a Citizen of the US


Req/Desired Industry Certification- Prefer CPS, CIH or CHMM certification

Additional Information/Requirements

Must be willing to relocate to and work onsite in Albuquerque, NM.
