Wetland Scientist
Cypress Environmental Consulting has an opportunity for a full-time Wetland Scientist to join our team in Houston, Texas. This role will involve conducting field work and preparing regulatory reports for wetland and stream delineations, functional and conditional assessments, natural resource surveys, habitat assessments, and vegetation surveys. Prior experience with plant identification, GPS data collection, GIS mapping, and wetland and wildlife survey methods are essential. In addition, familiarity with federal and state environmental regulations and regulatory permitting pertaining to a variety of municipal, transportation, land development, and natural resource projects is beneficial.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Botany, or related field
· Minimum of 2 years of experience in wetland ecology and wetland and stream delineation field techniques
· Strong knowledge of plant identification, wetland ecology, and aquatic resource habitats
· Prior completion of a 40-hour wetland delineation training course
· Experience utilizing GPS units and field data collection applications, such as TerraSync, Trimble Pathfinder Office
· This position requires a flexible schedule and the ability to mobilize to project locations and perform work during all weather conditions, which may involve hiking up to 10 miles per day in harsh terrain
· Willing and able to travel on short notice, and work in remote locations for short and long duration
· Abide by the project schedule, coordinating travel plans, vehicle and equipment needs, and multi-party collaboration in a timely and efficient manner
· Observe and abide by policies and procedures outlined in project-specific health and safety plans and company Environmental Health and Safety Management policies and procedures
· Valid driver license and clean driving record
· May be required to obtain health and safety certifications, industry-approved trainings, or project-specific certifications
· Must pass a drug test prior to employment and will be subject to project-related, post-accident, random, and reasonable cause testing during employment.
Additional Preferable Skills & Certifications
· Master's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Botany, or related field
· Certification as a Wetland Professional In-Training or Professional Wetland Scientist by the Society of Wetland Scientists
