About the Job
Essential Functions
To advance The Raptor Center's mission of service by managing the veterinary clinic to efficiently and effectively provide care to over 1000 wild raptors annually in addition to client-owned birds. This role requires exceptional communication and strong management skills in order to successfully supervise multiple staff, students and volunteers as outlined above. To support the clinic's teaching mission, the clinic manager will create, update, delegate and execute clinic training offerings, which includes in-person training and online courses. The clinic manager will represent TRC via multiple venues, including but not limited to, professional conferences, public-facing communications (email, phone calls, publications, social media content), and in-person events.
Responsibilities vary seasonally and will include:
60% - Supervision and management of people and workflow within the TRC clinic, which includes but is not limited to
Manage and supervise 2 veterinary technicians, 1 veterinary technician assistant, and several student workers
Supervise the daily activities of clinic and flight volunteers
Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the clinic, including facilities, patient care, staffing schedules, division of duties, etc.
Identify challenges and opportunities for improvement within the daily operations of the TRC clinic, and propose solutions to the clinic leadership team (associate veterinarian, medical director, assistant director).
Manage clinic facilities (arrange for minor repairs - plumbing, electrical, etc.)
Oversee and manage the clinic permits and associated reporting requirements
Oversee and manage clinic initiatives and projects as assigned
25% - Patient care and clinic support work
Assist with daily patient care needs, veterinary staff support, and clinic operational tasks as needed
10% - Teaching and outreach
Manage and contribute to the development and implementation of TRC's clinical training offerings (online courses, in-person training, etc.)
Represent TRC in a professional manner consistent with the TRC clinic's identified mission and goals
5% - Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
BA/BS degree plus at least 4 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least eight years.
Minimum 2 years supervisory experience in a professional setting
Comfort in speaking in front of audiences
Good oral and written communication skills
Physical abilities: lift to 35 pounds; walk mile
Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively with others, strong interpersonal skills
Basic competency in the Microsoft suite: Word, Excel, Gmail, PowerPoint
Desirable Qualifications
Wildlife rehabilitation experience
Basic raptor knowledge
Public Speaking
B.S degree in animal-related field, biology, wildlife ecology/conservation
Experience working with volunteers
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities/Selection Criteria
Ability to project a positive attitude towards co-workers, supervisor, volunteers, and the public
Ability to provide excellent customer service - in person, online and on the telephone
Ability to use time efficiently and take initiative to respond to departmental needs
Ability to communicate (speak, listen, write, and respond)
Ability to work as a team member
