This is a paid internship, working 16 hours per week from January 21, 2025 through June 6th, 2025. Current Salary is $18.67 per hour.

DEEP LOOK is a wildlife video series about small animals and plants from KQED and PBS Digital Studios, distributed on YouTube. We have won 12 regional Emmy awards and a Webby award, among others. In our four-minute videos, we use macro photography and microscopy to give our audience a close-up view of the natural world they rarely experience:

KQED provide citizens of Northern California with a community-supported alternative to commercial media. We provide citizens with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions; convene community dialogue; bring the arts to everyone and engage audiences to share their stories. This role requires working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters and working in the field. KQED requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Essential functions:
• Research, report, develop and pitch stories that have the potential to become an episode of our series, with the guidance of the series supervising producer and episode producers.
• Report and write articles on deadline to accompany videos.

Other functions:
• Research video, photos and other materials to include in Deep Look videos.
• Occasionally work as a production assistant during filming days.
• Occasionally take behind-the-scenes photos and film behind-the-scenes videos during field production.
• Occasionally log footage.

Knowledge/Experience Required:
• Journalism training.
• Experience reporting on science and nature.
• Ability to work independently and balance multiple assignments.

Knowledge/Experience Desired:
• Background in the sciences.
• Experience in video production is beneficial, but not required.

Growth & Development Opportunities:
• Mentoring that will develop storytelling abilities.
• Strengthening of science and nature reporting and writing skills.
• Mentoring by the series supervising producer and other producers on the team.
