Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests, procedures and related duties. Utilizes scientific principles as well as technical, procedural, and problem-solving aptitudes for day-to-day laboratory technical operations, quality control, quality assurance, procedure/instrument maintenance and corrective action, test result correlation, and clinical laboratory related continuing education.
  • Performs moderate to high complexity Microbiology testing procedures with a high level of quality in accordance with established protocols in bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, parasitology, virology and molecular-based infectious disease Microbiology
  • Assures integrity of specimens during all phases of testing
  • Performs various slide preparations and staining techniques
  • Maintains complete documentation/competency for all steps of processes as outlined in standard operating procedures and policies
  • Analyzes, interprets, and records patient test results into the electronic medical record with a high degree accuracy.
  • Troubleshoots assay, reagent, and instrument issues

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree with completion of NAACLS accredited Medical Laboratory Scientist program, or Bachelor's Degree & one to two years of Medical Laboratory Scientist experience/training acceptable to the ASCP or AMT.
  • Previous microbiology experience is preferred.

Certification, Licensure, Registration
  • Certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist from the ASCP or AMT within one year of hire date.

Work Schedule
  • Varied Day Schedule Monday-Friday: 5:30 am - 2pm, 6am-2:30 pm; 6:30 am-3:00 pm, or 7am - 3:30 pm
  • Rotate every 3rd Weekend & Holiday: 5:30 am -2pm or 7am - 3:30 pm
  • No call time
  • Full Time; 80hrs/2wks

Pay

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
  • $27.50 - $41.50 per hour
