ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL GEOSCIENCES

The Department of Earth and Environmental Geosciences at Trinity University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor. We seek to expand current expertise in the department, with environmental research in terrestrial, critical zone, hydrological or marine settings, or in broader earth systems interactions. Use of geophysics, remote sensing, GIS, coding or other quantitative methods in research and teaching will be considered an asset.

The successful candidate must have a commitment to undergraduate teaching and will be expected to develop an active research program that involves undergraduates. Both the University and Department leverage their strong financial base to provide support for faculty and student research, especially for early career faculty.

The assistant professor position at Trinity consists of a 3-2 teaching load (1 teaching credit corresponds to a 3-contact-hour/week lecture or lab section) with a pre-tenure sabbatical. We seek candidates who will teach across the curriculum, including introductory and core geosciences courses as well as upper-level courses related to environmental geosciences. A Ph.D. in Geosciences is required before August 2025, but we encourage those who are ABD to apply. Experience teaching at the college level is preferred.

Trinity is committed to engaging in practices that ensure a welcoming, inclusive campus and community of learning for all students, faculty, and staff. Trinity University (https://www.trinity.edu/) is a secular, independent, private institution. Both the Department of Earth and Environmental Geosciences and the University value and safeguard academic freedom for faculty in their teaching and scholarship.

Trinity is a primarily undergraduate institution that offers high-quality science, liberal arts, and pre-professional programs to approximately 2500 undergraduate students from the U.S. and many foreign countries. The Department of Earth and Environmental Geosciences is part of the D. R. Semmes School of Science, which was recently endowed with a gift of $26.5 million to add new support for students and faculty. The attractive campus overlooks downtown San Antonio, a city with a relatively low cost of living, a rich cultural heritage, and ethnic diversity. The Austin-San Antonio corridor boasts some of the best food and music destinations in the country. Additional information about Trinity and San Antonio can be found in this Resource Guide (https://tinyurl.com/52ajd4d8). The Earth and Environmental Geosciences Department, (https://www.trinity.edu/academics/departments/geosciences) housed in the Center for Sciences and Innovation, (https://www.trinity.edu/directory/spaces-places/center-sciences-and-innovation) has granted degrees in the geosciences for over 50 years and is a member of the Keck Geology Consortium.

Interested? Trinity faculty will be attending both GSA Connects 2024 in Anaheim and the annual AGU meeting in Washington, D.C., and they will be happy to meet with anyone interested in this position.
