Microbiology Faculty Position - MARSHALL UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

The Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Science at Marshall University is seeking candidates for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Applicants must have a PhD in the life sciences, at least two years of relevant postdoctoral experience, and a research program in eukaryotic or prokaryotic microbiology.

The new hire is expected to bring to the position a competitive research program, and to bring innovative research approaches to the department. This research program should expand on and form collaborations within existing strengths in the department. Among the six areas of distinction identified in the MU strategic plan are Health Sciences and Forensic Sciences. We are most interested in candidates with research foci that will contribute to these areas, including but not limited to microbiome and trans-kingdom interactions, fermentation, environmental influences on microbiomes, and/or immunological responses. Our department and university offer extensive resources, including advanced microscopy and molecular/bioinformatics core facilities.

Teaching responsibilities will predominantly be in the department's core courses for biology majors including courses in microbiology. Prior experience teaching undergraduate microbiology lectures or labs is preferred. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop new graduate and upper-level undergraduate courses in their specific area of expertise.

Our Department and College value exemplary teaching and research. The successful candidate will demonstrate potential for an independent, collaborative, and competitive research program with strong funding potential and involvement of undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, the candidate will demonstrate a commitment to enthusiastic, innovative, and inclusive teaching.
