Job DescriptionJob Description
Manages the booking, curriculum, and daily operations of the Environmental Education program including contributing to the financial solvency of Camp Skyland Ranch. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and promotion of a broad range of program activities and resources for the environmental and outdoor education programs offered by GSSGC, especially the school-based programs.
This position ensures programs are effectively designed, implemented, and aligned with the Girl Scout mission and California school standards to promote environmental literacy and other outcomes. Includes hiring and training staff, managing budgets, booking programs, and working with students, teachers, and community members.
The Environmental Education program is one component of the overall camp program. Camp Skyland Ranch is a Girl Scout camp that includes a school-based program to ensure a financially sustainable property.
The essential functions of the job include working with the Skyland Ranch Experience Manager (your supervisor) to set goals and plans of action for participant recruitment and delivery of outdoor and environmental education programs to ensure a sustainable camp property. This person will work cross-departmentally to create a marketing and funding plan that reaches a diverse audience to sell environmental education programs to schools and groups. They will manage all aspects of the day-to-day operations of assigned program(s), including but not limited to, hiring, training and managing staff, managing participants and teachers, emergency procedures, risk management, safety, facility operation, curriculum development, and programming. They would oversee all aspects of property use as assigned including opening, closing, and transitioning of properties between seasons and submitting maintenance requests. This position is also responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate records related to all aspects of program operations and activities during the Environmental Ed season and making recommendations for the following season. They are reasonable for accounting processes, participant record keeping & reporting and budget management, as well as, ensuring all federal, state, county, and Girl Scout policies and laws are followed.
A successful candidate would have a bachelor's degree or equivalent, have at least 2 years of relevant experience, and know about California School Curriculum standards and the American Camp Association standards. In addition, they would have intermediate-level skills using a computer, have previous supervisory experience in a camp or outdoor setting, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills and customer service skills. As well as, an ability to work independently.
