The Doe Run Company is currently seeking an Environmental Specialist to assist the Environmental Compliance Supervisor's efforts to maintain compliance with state and federal environmental regulations by ensuring proper data collection, analysis and reporting. The position will be based out of our Central Office in Viburnum, MO.
Based in St. Louis, Missouri, The Doe Run Company is a privately held natural resources company and one of the largest lead producers in the Western Hemisphere. - Compliance: Completing compliance monitoring, permitting, and reporting for operations sites.Act as subject matter expert regarding protocols and compliance with relevant regulations and policies including CWA, RCRA, CAA, PDW, ISO, TAOC, and other internal and external requirements.
- Field Work: Provide support to and troubleshoot all environmental sampling and analysis for operations sites including industrial water treatment plants, meteorological stations, air monitoring, and permitting NPDES monitoring.
- Analysis: Read, interpret, and remain current on governmental regulations, especially any monitoring requirements.
- Project Management: Implement and manage projects to enhance sampling and analysis.
- Implement Systems: Develop and implement systems to manage programs or day-to-day activities of the workforce across all environmental functions.
- Conduct waste stream characterization, annual/biennial reporting, exception reporting, waste reduction program, shipments, data entry, inspections, training implementation and program management, labeling, manifest tracking, and filing.
- May supervise environmental technicians, train and develop their skills, mentor, and manage performance.
- Complete tasks in a safe and environmentally compliant manner by following EHS (environmental, health, and safety) policies, procedures, and best practices; support and assist peers in working in a safe, compliant manner; report unsafe acts or conditions, incidents, and deviations; and provide feedback to support continuous improvement in EHS performance.
- If supervising, maintain EHS (environmental, health, and safety) compliance by holding direct reports accountable for adherence to EHS policies, procedures, and best practices; evaluating employee EHS performance via field observations and document review; reporting and correcting unsafe acts or conditions, incidents, and deviations; and providing feedback to support continuous improvement in EHS performance.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science/Engineering/Chemistry (or related degree) or equivalent work experience.
- MSHA safety training preferred.
- Valid driver's license.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Proficient knowledge of data collection systems, software, and hardware.
- Basic knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
- Basic knowledge of current environmental best management practices and compliance techniques/technologies.
- Regularly required to use telephone/radio and computer/tablet.
- Work is performed in a standard office setting and outdoors. Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions and vibrations. Occasionally required to work around heavy equipment.Required to wear PPE including respirator, head protection, eye protection, and foot protection, and required to work near moving mechanical parts.
- Regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, talk, and hear; Occasionally required to use repetitive motion and reach with hands/arms. Requires clarity of vision and three-dimensional vision.
- Occasionally required to lift up to 75 pounds.
