Title: Environmental Specialist

Duties: Act as a site manager providing regulatory oversight to ensure that cleanup actions comply with the mission of the Department, Program, the Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA), and other applicable environmental laws, regulations, and policies. Focus on Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) Cleanup Sites, including working on sites that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has identified in their LUST backlog of sites. Independently plan, develop, direct, conduct, oversee, and provide technical assistance and guidance on cleanup of contaminated sites including LUST sites, as well as evaluating cleanup plans, data, and results. Ensure cleanup sites meet the substantive requirements of the MTCA and other relevant laws and regulations and support the Clean Up Sites goal in the Toxics Cleanup Program's strategic plan. Manage LUST environmental cleanup projects and provides regulatory oversight through review of and comment on work plans, remedial investigations, feasibility studies, remedial action plans, operation and maintenance plans and reports. Position may include additional duties that utilize the required skills.

Telecommuting permitted up to 90%; employee must reside within normal commuting distance of Department of Ecology's office in Shoreline, Washington.

Requirements: Requires a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, geology, environmental planning, or other allied field and five years of professional-level experience in environmental analysis or control, or environmental planning. Experience must include:
• Planning, developing, directing, conducting, overseeing, and providing technical assistance and guidance on petrophysical analysis, reservoir and fluids evaluation and well path placement projects;
• Collaborating with operator's geoscientists, reservoir, drilling engineers and other stakeholders, and providing guidance on drilling operations;
• Reviewing conventional and unconventional Oil and Gas projects;
• Developing and maintaining a detailed understanding of engineering, environmental impact; and
• Incorporating available seismic, well, and cores data to approve recommended proposed well trajectory and drilling programs, performing periodic wellsite visits, and ensuring permit hydraulic fracturing operations, workovers, infill drilling, and recommend multi-well pad optimization.

Wage Range: $86,712.00 - $88,800.00/Year
