Business Job Title: Supervisor, Environmental Health & Safety

Job Summary: The Safety Supervisor is responsible for driving a safety-focused culture through administration of robust employee safety and company environmental programs that prioritize safety first.The supervisor will also recommend and implement measures to reduce industrial health and accident hazards, while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with Safety and Production Managers to ensure the effective application of established safety practices, utilization of safety equipment and devices and to investigate and eliminate hazardous conditions and unsafe practices.
  • Drive a safety culture that continuously improves and evolves to ensure all employees perform their jobs with a high degree of safety.
  • Develop and maintain site-specific safety metrics to identify trends and aid in proactive hazard identification within the business.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with local, state, and Federal regulations.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of department specific safety goals and procedures as required.
  • Select and propose the purchase of standard manufactured safety devices.
  • Partner with operations management to proactively ensure effective application of safety practices, utilization of safety equipment and devices, and to investigate and eliminate hazardous conditions and unsafe practices.
  • Develop effective accident investigation techniques through the review of First Reports of Injury and Supervisor Accident Investigations. Review shall include follow-up activities with Production Managers to ensure reports are properly completed and that potential corrective measures are thoroughly reviewed and implemented when/where appropriate.
  • Manage primary worker's compensation claim handling practices and procedures, including claim submission, correspondence, and return-to-work process.
  • Review and update policies and training programs for improved safety practices. Provide ongoing training for safety-related policies and programs.
  • Perform environmental inspections, sampling, and audits as required by regulatory agencies and maintain proper recordkeeping of all logs, inspections, and forms.
  • Compile and complete all regulatory environmental reports (air emissions, hazardous waste, storm water, wastewater, emergency management, etc.).
  • Manage storage and disposal processes for hazardous, non-hazardous, and universal wastes generated within the facility.
  • Prepare and maintain OSHA logs and any other required compliance reporting for company site.
  • Act as the main point of contact for safety and environmental regulatory agencies, including inspections, correspondence, recordkeeping, and abatement in relation to citations or fines.
  • Manage vendor relationships that pertain to Broan's Safety Programs and manage associated invoices and purchase orders in conjunction with appropriate departments.
  • Review and approve pertinent capital expenditure requests for new equipment or construction to ensure they are in accordance with Broan's safety programs.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelors' Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, or related degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in safety and claims management in a high-volume manufacturing environment. Lean Manufacturing knowledge is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use and/or implementation of Lock out/Tag out, Ergonomics, and Job Risk Assessments.
  • Great attitude to continuously learn and maintain current industry knowledge.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact at all levels.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Requires a high tolerance for ambiguity, good judgment, strong work ethic and sense of urgency.
  • Ability to investigate, interpret and present data.
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on commitments.
  • Effectively balances business issues with employee advocacy.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to move safely throughout all areas of the office and plant as needed, with or without accommodation
