This essential position analyzes the work environments at the University to design
and implement programs to control, eliminate, and prevent disease, injury, and/or environmental impact caused by chemical, physical, radiological and biological
agents, ergonomic and/or other factors. Work will involve risk analysis, environmental program management, fire safety, industrial hygiene, emergency preparedness and other related programs. Conduct environment, health and safety assessments and develop safety programs and conduct safety training for employees and groups of employees, and OSHA training such as blood borne pathogens, ladder safety, machine guarding, confined space entry and others applicable to university personnel. Advise university personnel on proper techniques to avoid contamination of employees or the environment while working. Conduct inspections and inform management of areas that may not be in compliance with local, state and federal regulations and employee policies, and assist with corrective action.
Ensure safe operations of fire alarm systems, conduct fire and safety drills, conduct periodic building inspections, investigate workplace accidents and workers' compensation claims, oversee disposal of biological and hazardous materials and spill control, and manage the building coordinator program. Ensure unsafe working conditions are corrected and provide remedial training to employees to avoid a repeat of the workplace accident or injury. Author health and safety policies and procedures for the campus and participate in development and/or revision of the university's Emergency Plan and Disaster Recovery Plan.

Description of Work Continued:

Conduct environment, health and safety assessments, perform environmental tests, procedures and experiments, and develop safety programs and conduct safety training for employees and groups of employees, and OSHA training such as blood borne pathogens, ladder safety, machine guarding, confined space entry and others applicable to university personnel.
Conduct inspections and inform management of areas that may not be in compliance with local, state and federal regulations and employee policies, and assist with corrective action.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a physical science, biological science, environmental science/engineering, occupational safety, industrial technology or related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require additional training, certifications, or licensure. All degrees must be received fromappropriately accredited institutions.
Knowledge skills and abilities:
Professional and Program Knowledge: Ability to administer University, local, State
and Federal Guidelines; assess new trends/issues and research the impact on the University and develop policies. Provide technical support, analysis and consultative services to identify and/or rectify Environmental, Safety and Health programmatic area (s). Ability to apply considerable knowledge and understanding of EHS principles, practices and equipment to determine if proper methods and procedures are utilized and to assure compliance with Federal, State, local and Industrial regulations. Knowledge of State and EPA rules and regulations.
Program Monitoring and Administration: Conducts and documents moderately complex inspections/investigations; assists in corrective action strategies; assesses, determines plans and implements corrective action for standard to non-standard situations. Evaluates incidents, makes appropriate decisions regarding the need for
facility evacuations and additional resources needs, initiates necessary action to control the situation until help arrives. Ability to interpret and evaluate results of statistical analysis. Directs and maintains EHS program (s).
Training and Education: Designs and develops training programs; coordinates and trains others on EHS measures and guidelines to meet the level of the audience. Designs and develops educational materials of moderate complexity or for a specialized area.
Safety and Health Compliance: Applies in-depth knowledge of local, State and Federal regulations to determine compliance within program areas; oversees compliance with EHS measures and guidelines. Reviews projects for design and implementation of work; establishes procedures for operational compliance and tracking performance of permit holders. Ability to perform environmental tests, procedures and experiments requiring knowledge of program equipment. Trains others to perform self-audits; reviews self-audits completed by others. Ensures proper certifications are obtained/maintained. May consult with industry professional to stay current of trends and issues.
Communication Skills: Interprets inspection results and recommendations effectively to higher level administrators; implements inspection recommendations. Interprets rules and regulations based on inquires. Ability to disseminate, interpret and explain policy and procedures.
