About the Role & Team
Be part of the dynamic and innovative Science Operations team where we are part of a broader mission to Lead Walt Disney Parks and Resorts to Care for animals and the environment, Connect people to nature and Conserve our natural resources.
In this leader-level role, you will provide oversight and scientific input into the Animal Care Science Strategy, focusing on behavior science. The Science team is a dynamic team consisting of experts from multiple fields focused on behavior, endocrinology, cognition, behavioral husbandry, population biology, environmental monitoring and welfare across multiple locations. The science team also works in close collaboration with the Disney Conservation team in support of conservation and science goals.
In this role, you will report to the Science Operations Manager.

In this role, you will report to the Science Operations Manager.
What You Will Do
- Lead all aspects of the development and implementation of scientific studies and operation-focused behavior monitoring
- Lead the work of the Behavior team through duties including project management, data quality control, reviewing analyses and reports for accuracy and operation focus, and Cast development and mentorship
- Collaborate with partners to identify and prioritize behavior studies and monitoring projects in support of operational needs
- Contribute to the Science Operations team's teaching commitments including courses designed for Animal Program Cast Members and local university students
- Lead by example with an innovative and growth mindset that emphasizes the generation of novel ideas and solution oriented approaches to operational challenges
- Share project findings externally in presentation and publication formats
- Help build and deliver quality guest experiences that showcase the Science team's contributions to evidence-based animal care at Disney and for the broader zoo and aquarium industry
- Develop strategic goals for the Behavior team and support Science team contributions to The Walt Disney Company and Animals, Science and Environment strategic goals
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Professional hands on experience conducting animal behavior research in a zoo or aquarium setting
- Publication history and/or presentation experience at conferences
- Validated knowledge of experimental design for zoo studies
- Proficiency conducting statistical analysis of sophisticated datasets
- Proven teaching experience, as well as supervising students and/or staff
- Proven ability to communicate well in both written and oral formats
- Excels at ability to work as part of a large team
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum five years of experience working for a zoological institution
- Experience conducting research with more than one taxonomic group of animals
- Experience designing and implementing welfare monitoring and animal visibility programs
- Experience instructing university level courses
- Work experience within The Walt Disney Company
Education
