The Alumis team seeks a highly motivated Sr. Scientist I with a focus in immunology to join our research biology group. The individual will participate in the design and execution of experiments in biological systems to characterize and validate target/therapeutic mechanism of action, and screen for potency and efficacy of small molecule drug candidates via in vitro and ex vivo assays. The successful candidate will use their knowledge, experience, and skills to manage and conduct research activities, analyze preclinical and clinical literatures, develop hypotheses, and contribute to the company's research and development efforts to create high value therapeutics.

The salary range for this position is $140,000 USD to $155,000 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the Company's compensation practices.

The individual will participate in the design and execution of experiments in biological systems to characterize and validate target/therapeutic mechanism of action, and screen for potency and efficacy of small molecule drug candidates via in vitro and ex vivo assays. The successful candidate will use their knowledge, experience, and skills to manage and conduct research activities, analyze preclinical and clinical literatures, develop hypotheses, and contribute to the company's research and development efforts to create high value therapeutics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and execution of preclinical cell based and biochemical studies (in vitro/ex vivo) to explore target biology, preclinical differentiation, mechanism of action and translational research.
- Contribute at the bench, collaborate cross-functionally, involve in scientific, technical discussion and data presentation at research and project teams.
- Oversee and execute cellular assays and manage CRO and collaborator studies; may directly or indirectly supervise activities of laboratory personnel.
Ideal candidate:
- PhD in immunology or related areas with at least 3 years relevant industry work experience or MS/BS with more extensive relevant industry experience.
- Experience in small molecule drug discovery with a focus on preclinical cellular biology and immunology desired.
- Solid foundation and proficient in relevant in vitro/ ex vivo experimental biology techniques such as immunoassays (multicolor flow cytometry, ELISA, MSD, Luminex), qPCR, biochemical assays, cell-based signaling and functional assays.
- Expertise in in vitro immunology models, including isolation and characterization of primary immune cells and handling primary peripheral blood cells.
- Experience in designing and conducting in vivo studies is a plus.
- Proficiency in software for analyzing data, such as Prism, Excel, FlowJo or other relevant scientific applications is required.
- Ability to interpret and report results and effectively communicate with broad research and project teams.
- Capability of evaluating scientific literature to stay current within field of research.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and cross-functionally to advance drug discovery programs; experience working with external CRO's and academic collaborators is a plus.
