Description

The Environmental Protection Manager (EPM) assists corporate management to develop and update Corporate Environmental Policies and Procedures and provides technical guidance to divisions on company environmental, compliance and regulatory requirements. Assists management and division staff with implementation of environmental policies, strategies and management systems at all operating divisions.

Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully the EPM must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, as below:
  • Develops environmental programs and management systems, guidance and procedures necessary to assure compliance with company policies, environmental regulations and other legal conditions. Provides guidance and training to division managers and staff to implement these programs at all operating locations, including landfills, transfer stations, collection operations and recycling plants.
  • Maintains company-wide regulatory database and provides interpretation and guidance to management and operating divisions regarding impact and implementation of emerging regulatory changes.
  • Acts as a liaison and maintains regular communications with regulators at local, state and federal agencies.
  • Maintains, updates and coordinates compliance management system and provides the respective communication and training to relevant staff. Provides compliance management reports for corporate managements review.
  • Monitors and assists divisions to ensure that they prepare and submit regulatory and company environmental related reporting.
  • Serves as Moderns primary compliance contact regarding incident notifications and associated regulatory reporting of identified environmental compliance issues.
  • Routinely monitors status of environmental compliance, including internal compliance audits of operating divisions, and provides reports of findings to corporate management and operating staff.
  • Works cooperatively with operational and technical staff to ensure timely preparation of regulatory reports and permit applications for management review prior to submittal to regulatory agencies.
  • Administers and coordinates the customer waste and special waste review and approval program that documents compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or environmental sciences, and minimum five (5) years of relevant work experience in the waste management or other environmental field.
  • Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations (solid waste, air, water and others) applicable to the solid waste industry.
  • MS Office familiarity, general computer acumen and ability to learn to utilize other job-related technical software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, familiarity with statistical methods and research skills.
