Job Description
The Sr Environmental Health and Safety Engineer is a professional position responsible for the analysis, development and recommendations for various projects and responsible for managing the environmental, health, safety and training program. The senior environmental health and safety engineer will be responsible for regulatory compliance, training, engineering design and operational consulting support. Duties include reporting to, direct contact with and coordination with regulators, consultants, onsite operations and others affected by or having responsibility for activity at the site. Supervise select hourly employees on a day-to-day basis.
Responsibilities
Maintain compliance with federal, state, local, and company regulations. Ensures all environmental, health and safety procedures and plans are current and being followed as designed. Annually update required safety and training plans and programs.
Conduct field, safety equipment, facilities and equipment inspections. Audit work, calibration and safety inspection records. Maintain lockout tagout program, OSHA 300 Logs and annual training matrix records.
Prepare all required compliance reports for submittal to regulatory agencies and maintain up to date knowledge of regulations. Compile information and submit reports for continuous air, water, waste, dust and other reporting requirements as necessary. Responsible for hazardous waste inspections, reporting, and shipping. Prepare corporate reports including periodic environmental compliance reports and responses to corporate safety, environmental, and compliance audits.
Conduct safety and orientation training, including development of training material and ensuring training records are maintained for the entire site.
Maintain environmental management systems to effectively manage tasks, track environmental, health and safety data, and update permits and plans as necessary.
Lead and track wellness programs, safety committees, workgroup safety meetings. Advise management on improvements to organizational processes, implement improvements by collaborating with skilled workers and management and investigate safety concerns.
Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, environmental sciences or physical sciences. (Typically, six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
Six years of related work experience in environmental and safety compliance. Completion of HAZWOPER training, OSHA 511 Basic Course in General Industry and/or the OSHA 501 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety & Health Standards for General Industry preferred.
Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability to lead projects and work with others effectively in a diverse working environment.
Effective oral and written communication skills to transmit information accurately and understandably in group settings.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with government agencies, trade groups and other industries.
Computer skills including competency with spreadsheets, word processors, presentation tools and other various programs; or a demonstrated ability to learn such skills.
Project management skills: ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
Possession of professional registration or certification is a plus.
