Education Program Coordinator
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Facilitate all aspects of Dolphin Discovery, Sharks In The Dark, Trainer For A Day, Ultimate Education Days, Wildlife Discovery, and other educational programs.
Recruit, hire, and train animal exhibit docents.
Conduct research on and develop educational programs for guest benefit.
Write and edit educational materials and documents.
Speak to guests and educate them about the animals. Answer questions and host live training sessions.
Maintain company website and ensure accurate information surrounding educational programs.
Prep and run hands-on activities including squid dissection, scavenger hunts, and other games
Maintain accurate log of education events and activities.
Develop and update standard operating procedures.
Perform periodic evaluation of team members and seasonal leadership.
Schedule animal exhibit docent coverage. Ensure ambassadors are trained adequately.
Maintain communication with Supervisors and other disciplines within the Animal Care Departments.
Follow all policies and procedures of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and the Animal Care Department.
Participate in the inter- and intra-departmental cross training program.
Perform all other duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in education, biology or similar field
Comfort with public speaking and hosting hands-on educational presentations.
Ability to work with all ages especially young children.
Strong problem solving, training, and organization skills.
Availability to work varied shifts including weekends, evenings, and holidays in varied weather conditions.
Will be required to work around animals indoors and outdoors in extreme weather conditions including cold and heat.
Duties and tasks may involve standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50lbs.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate vehicles (including but not limited to forklifts, golf carts, cars, trucks).
