This is where your legacy begins! The Leidos Biological Innovations Center currently looking for a Biology Scientist to work in our San Diego, California office. We are seeking a broadly trained and highly motivated biologist for advanced technology programs focused in synthetic and systems biology. This is a highly dynamic and integrative environment in which talented and creative scientists can thrive working on a diverse array of multidisciplinary projects.

Primary Responsibilities

You will work alongside and under the guidance of experienced scientists, and will be part of a fast-paced multidisciplinary team consisting of biologists, chemists, mathematicians, statisticians, and engineers working at the forefront of innovation

Assist in the design and execution of experiments, including development of novel assays; cloning, expression and purification of proteins in mammalian, bacterial, and/or cell-free systems; as well as development of novel biofluidic and/or bioinspired platforms

Assist in the development and execution of experiments involving Next Generation Sequencing; including experimental design, DNA extractions, library prep, and operation of NGS platforms

Perform basic wet lab techniques, such as Western blotting, PCR, cloning/transformation, nucleic acid extraction/purification/quantification, plate-based assays, mammalian/bacterial culturing

Quickly adapt to evolving research needs, as well as demonstrate willingness to learn new techniques, rapidly acquire new scientific knowledge, and stay informed on emerging technologies.

Candidates should follow sound scientific practices, maintain effective documentation of activities and analyses, and be able to effectively communicate findings and reasoning with other team members

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Biology or related discipline with 2+ years of technical experience or a Master's degree with 0-2 years of relevant experience

U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Molecular biology experience (e.g. nucleic acid extraction and purification, PCR, molecular cloning)

Self-motivated, detail-oriented, willing to learn, and interested in working in a team environment

Great work ethic and an enthusiasm for problem-solving

Team oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with people from diverse areas and disciplines

Strong organizational and time management skills

Preferred Qualifications

Genomics, Metagenomics background/experience

Experience with DNA extraction protocols and library preparation methods for NGS

Experience in mammalian and/or microbial cell culture and biology techniques

Previous work with cloning, mutagenesis, cell transformation/transfection

Protein expression, purification, and characterization experience

Possess US Government Security Clearance

Familiarity with working in a fast-paced DoD funded, milestones-driven environment
