JOB SUMMARY

Herbalists are practitioners of alternative medicine who use plant-based remedies to treat illnesses and improve people's health.

Herbal Goodness is seeking a full or part-time, certified herbalist to join our amazing team or natural wellness enthusiasts!

Our in-house herbalist will specialize in advising and formulating products and herbal lends using several types of herbs, such as traditional Chinese medicine, Western botanical medicine, and Ayurveda, or a combination of these specialties to support the needs of our customers. You will offer classes and specialized consultation (in-person and online), as well as custom herbal blends. Additionally, you will support the company's research and development efforts and serve as our in-house product and blend developer.

This role will work full-time at our retail store in McKinney, supporting training and knowledge, hosting community classes, providing individual consultations, advising on herbal juices, extracts, and custom blending. You will be required to serve as an educator, who conducts research, writes articles and books and hosts events.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
  • 3-5 years of experience working with herbs in a relevant setting. This could include experience as a practicing clinical herbalist, formulating herbal products, or working in quality control for a herbal supplement company.
  • In-depth knowledge of herbal medicine: Understanding the therapeutic uses, potential side effects, and proper dosages of various herbs is crucial.
  • Knowledge of herbal product development: This includes understanding formulation principles, extraction methods, quality control procedures, and regulatory requirements for herbal supplements (especially relevant considering you manufacture using a third party).
  • Excellent research and communication skills: The ability to research new herbal ingredients, stay updated on scientific literature, and communicate complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences is essential.
    Business acumen (preferred): Understanding the herbal supplement industry, market trends, and consumer behavior can be valuable, especially if the role involves product development or marketing aspects.

  • A recognized herbalist certification program.
  • Additional certifications relevant to herbal product development or quality control, such as from the American Botanical Council (ABC) or the USP Dietary Supplements Information Expert (DSIE) program.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Herbal Science, Botany, Ethnobotany, Nutritional Science, or a related field.
  • A Master's degree in a relevant field would be a strong plus, especially if focused on specific areas like clinical herbalism or herbal product development.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Readiness to report to the office 5 days a week (Mondays - Fridays 9 am - 5 pm CST)
