The Technical Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials engineers high performance functional and structural ceramic materials, components and sub-assemblies to address customer-specific technical challenges.

This position is responsible for leading the Hayward Site in safety, environmental stewardship, and occupational health for the business unit. Safety is of paramount importance and the Morgan Advanced Materials sites enjoy a strong safety culture and a restless dedication to continuous improvement. The successful candidate will provide EH&S leadership, champion and help site introduce corporate programs and build bottoms-up safety programs and practices hand-in-hand with local management. Will work closely and serve the Hayward site, including manufacturing, R&D, and administration. It is important that regulatory compliance is maintained, and best management practices are promoted.

Essential Functions:

Proactively partners with the regional sites:

Builds the site's EHS strategic plan and works closely in coordination with the other sites to execute the plan and achieve year on year progress on overall performance metrics

Develops and monitors site specific training programs facilitating training in person or via 3rd party suppliers

Provides oversight of accident/incident investigations and corrective actions to ensure accurate classification of injuries and illness and those corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.

Reduces organization's EHS risks, liability and associated financial costs by developing systems and risk management matrix to manage enterprise EHS liability issues.

Participates in the due diligence process for the design of the facilities or major renovations to ensure all EH&S considerations are taken into account.

Ensures emergency preparedness and response plans are maintained and participates in any emergency response and recovery efforts as needed.

Provides direction for industrial hygiene monitoring, including chemical and physical agent exposure assessments and corrective actions to ensure regulatory compliance and protect employees from potential adverse health effects

Develop, coordinate and conduct the Company's safety programs to ensure compliance with all Federal, State and local regulations.

Develops, coordinates and conducts the Company's hazardous substance exposure monitoring programs to ensure compliance with all government regulations.

Recommends and assists in the implementation of engineering controls and process changes to correct safety issues.

Coordinates incident investigations and root cause analysis for future incident prevention

Coordinates and conduct safety audits within the Company's facilities. Develop and implement corrective actions where required.

Conducts training to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

Assists on workers compensation issues

Follows all state and federal regulatory requirements applicable to the company for permitting, reporting, monitoring and recordkeeping for Title V, NPDES, SARA Title III, Groundwater, Storm Water, SPCC and RCRA.

Manages the ISO 14001 system.

Develops and implements a facility energy savings program.

Manages hazardous waste programs.

Compiles and completes internal reports, as needed.

Interfaces with Corporate EHS Team:

Contributes to Corporate EHS strategy by actively participating in the Corporate EHS Council along with regional Compliance Managers and the Corporate EHS Team.

Develops EHS policies and programs in close coordination with EHS Corporate Group. Policies will identify minimum Corporate expectations for compliance on both technical and management standards.

Ensures that work-related accident and injury/illness data from the region are being collected and reported properly to Corporate, Group Leadership, and legal entities.

Assists sites in preparing for Corporate-sponsored EH&S compliance audits and assists sites in completing corrective actions which may result.

Acts as the regions external industry advocate:

Develops industry-accepted EHS standards and ensures implementation throughout the region

Acts as the resident EHS expert for the region by being current on regulatory and compliance issues and overall trends that may impact EHS matters and performance for the company

Ensures government compliance and compliance with Morgan Corporate EH&S Policies and Programs.

Ensures that proper environmental operating permits are acquired for new facilities/operations and then maintained per agency requirements.

Ensures that product Safety Data Sheets comply with applicable regulatory requirements and Morgan standards.

Education and/or Experience:

BS Degree with a minimum of 7-10 years of experience. Degree in Environmental Sciences, Safety or Chemical Engineering with appropriate experience. Advanced education may be used in lieu of some years of experience.

Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) , regulations and industrial practices for the management of hazardous waste (Large Quantity Generators)

Permitting, emissions tracking and reporting for air emissions at Title V Major Source and Synthetic Minor Source facilities

Community right-to-know reporting (Superfund Amendments Reauthorization (SARA now CERCLA) Act 312 Tier II and SARA 313 TRI) and communication/preplanning with emergency response authorities

National Polluting Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) storm water permitting

Corporate reporting for energy, water usage and waste generation; management systems to control and reduce usages and waste; waste recycling

ISO-style EHS management systems

Communication, coordination and compliance with regulatory and community authorities on complex environmental matters

Additional Certification:

Certified Safety Professional - desirable.

Certified Industrial Hygienist - desirable

Certified Hazardous Materials Manager - desirable

Individual must be a:

Citizen of the United States, or

Permanent resident alien of the United States, or

Protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) as defined by 22CFR120.15

Salary Range: Salaried exempt $110,000 - $135,000 plus bonus potential 20%
