We are actively seeking a highly proactive and dedicated Corporate Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety Manager to join our team at Ounalashka Corporation (COEHSM).
As COEHSM you will establish and maintain a culture of safety excellence and safeguard compliance with all relevant OSHA, state and local regulations and standards. This comprises assisting in the development and implementation of an effective safety program including the corporate protocols, procedures, training, documentation, and reporting. In addition, the COEHSM will ensure the availability and usability of safety equipment and advise on the storage and management of hazardous materials. You will promptly respond to any employee safety concerns, providing guidance and support in resolving issues and improve the overall safety and performance of the organization.
Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with cross-functional departments to promote safety initiatives and ensure the integration of safety practices into daily operations.
* Develop and implement safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, codes and regulations.
* Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to safety standards.
* Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
* Provide and coordinate all safety and position specific training and education programs for employees to promote a culture of safety awareness.
* Identify hazardous waste and dispose of correctly and/or provide guidance and coordination for proper disposal and hazardous disposal.
* Provide equipment training and certification
* Collaborate with management to develop and implement risk management strategies
* Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and initiatives
* Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training activities
Experience:
* Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification
* A minimum of 5 years' experience in construction health and safety management or a related field
* Knowledge of compliance management and occupational health regulations and reporting requirements
* Experience in risk management and implementing safety programs
* Familiarity with construction management software for tracking safety metrics and incidents
* Knowledge of workers' compensation procedures and claims management
* Understanding of Alaska OSHA regulations and requirements
* Familiarity with EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) practices
* Knowledge of NEC (National Electrical Code) preferred
* Experience with construction competent person requirements (e.g., excavation, , fall protection, etc) and the ability to identify competent persons for each category.
* Attention to detail
* Experience working in remote Alaska with harsh conditions
