We are currently seeking a Research Associate to join our dynamic and collaborative team in La Jolla, CA. Under supervision, the Research Associate will assist the scientific staff in routine support and logistics activities within the Phototrophic Systems Group.

Required Skills

• Prepare growth media and components by following detailed protocols.
• Calibrate and maintain sensor systems.
• Provide clean and sterilized lab materials for experiments.
• Perform routine and experimental physiological measurements
• Exercises judgment within defined practices and procedures; guided decision making.
• Clearly documents and maintains laboratory notebooks, logs, and computer files.
• Prepare SOP's
• Must be able to follow experimental protocols for complex physiology experiments focused on testing productivity of algae strains
• Performs preventive maintenance to laboratory equipment at schedule bases and/or as required or assigned.
• Use of appropriate judgement for time management.
• Maintain a culture of safety in the facilities
• Performs other duties as assigned

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in microbiology, phycology, biology or related discipline with 0-1 year of laboratory experience
• Basic familiarity with lab equipment and machinery
• Experience with sterile technique and maintenance of microbiology cultures
• Basic knowledge of lab safety protocols
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to read, write and follow written and verbal instruction
• Team-player who works well in a team oriented environment
• Computer usage including Email, Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Firm understanding of Excel and other Microsoft Office Products
• Ability to work a schedule which may include weekends and overtime

This is a temp to hire position.

Estimated base salary range for a Research Associate is $26.00 - $31.00hr depending on previous experience. Should the level of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated as well.
