Job Purpose

The Food Microbiologist is part of Godshall's laboratory team tasked with undertaking a variety of routine scientific duties under the company's Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). The right candidate must be detail-oriented, have strong analytical skills, and have the ability to work independently. The Food Microbiologist will report to the Food Science Director.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary job duties and responsibilities include:
  • Conduct experimentation using a designed approach to validate formulations and processes at the bench and pilot scale before entering production.
  • Engage in collaborative efforts with the Research and Development (R&D) department and other cross-functional teams, proposing and formulating innovative products, processes, and technologies to contribute to Godshall's continued growth.
  • Troubleshoot challenges encountered in projects, produce suggestions and discuss with the Food Science Director on solutions.
  • Assist with developing independent insights to improve the shelf-life tracking process.
  • Attending production runs as needed.
  • Involved in shelf-life analysis and other duties as assigned.
  • Process swab samples and report results.
  • Contribute to analyzing and determining swab patterns.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications required to perform the job successfully include:
  • B.S. in Microbiology, Food Science, Biology or a related field
  • Ability to operate and maintain equipment safely.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic working environment.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize activities to meet business-critical timelines.
  • Ability to carry out duties and instructions diligently and logically with moderate amounts of supervision.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity and experience with standard laboratory instruments and Microbiology testing methods


Working Conditions

Must be able to work in various work environments. (office/lab/production)

Exposure to plant environment that is wet, very humid and undergoes temperature changes, from hot to cold. Fast-paced environment working around heavy meat processing equipment.

Physical Requirements
  • Required to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Frequent use of hands for simple and firm grasping
  • Frequent lifting, carrying 5 pounds to 50 pounds.
