DESCRIPTION: Cal Poly Humboldt and the Department of Wildlife Management invites applications for an academic year, full-time (1.0 FTE), temporary faculty position in Conservation Biology for academic year 2024/2025. Initial appointment will be for the Fall 2024 semester. Subsequent reappointment for Spring 2025 is expected, but will be contingent upon satisfactory performance evaluation, budget, and programmatic need. Depending on satisfactory performance evaluation, available funding, and programmatic need we anticipate renewing this position in future terms. For appointment in future terms, the faculty member must submit an application to the Temporary Faculty Pool and/or apply to other faculty vacancies at Cal Poly Humboldt, as they are available. The successful candidate will teach the following during AY 2024/2025: WLDF 460 - Conservation Biology, WLDF 495 - Senior Project, and an additional course appropriate to their disciplinary and/or taxonomic expertise, such as WLDF 423 - Non-game management, or WLDF 430/431 - Wetland or Upland Habitat Ecology.

RANK, SALARY AND BENEFITS: This position will be filled in the Lecturer classification; however, rank and salary are dependent on the appointee's qualifications and experience. The salary schedule information for the Lecturer - Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

Appointees are typically placed at the beginning of the range. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the schedules above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: An earned PhD or equivilant in Conservation Biology, Wildlife Biology, Ecology, Evolution, or a related field from an accredited college or university is required at the time of appointment. Candidates with experience developing curriculum/courses/programs that inclusively serve a diverse student population and facilitate community growth are especially encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:
• Disciplinary expertise in Conservation Biology appropriate for teaching at the upper-division level;
• Disciplinary expertise in a related field, or vertebrate taxonomic group appropriate for teaching at the upper-division level;
• Demonstrated interest in, and commitment to, excellence in classroom, lab, and/or field instruction;
• Interest in mentoring undergraduate research projects in a senior project course;
• Commitment to and/or experience promoting and fostering an equitable learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds; and
• Commitment to contribute to the department's missing to support minoritized students.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
• Disciplinary expertise in habitat ecology and/or game or non-game wildlife management;
• Experience teaching at the upper-division level in the classroom, lab, or field; and
• Commitment to participating in professional development opportunities that build effectiveness in areas of inclusion, intercultural communication, and advancing diversity.
Working in the state of California is a condition of employment for this position. Even if part or all of an employee's assignment can be performed remotely, the employee must maintain a permanent residence in the state of California. The employee must be able to accept on-campus instruction, as assigned, and come to campus when needed.

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES: Candidates should be committed to teaching excellence. The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members in temporary positions are teaching, maintaining office hours, and working collaboratively and productively with colleagues. Instructional assignments may include: WLDF 460 - Conservation Biology, WLDF 485 - Senior Seminary, WLDF 495 - Senior Project, WLDF 423 - Non-game Management, or WLDF 430/431 - Wetland or Upland Habitat Ecology. Instructional assignments will be consistent with the programmatic needs of the department and students.
