Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology
The Austin College Department of Biology invites applications for two 1-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology positions to begin in Fall 2024, with the possibility to convert to tenure track depending on complementarity with department needs. Successful candidates will have strong commitments to innovative teaching in a liberal arts environment and to fostering and encouraging diversity in the classroom through their pedagogy.
Teaching responsibilities will mostly include mid to upper-level undergraduate biology courses in the candidate's area of expertise but may also include offerings in our introductory course sequence or non-majors science courses. Applicants from all areas of biology will be considered fully, but we particularly invite candidates who would be comfortable teaching some combination of plant biology, evolution, ecology, and vertebrate anatomy or physiology, or at the interfaces of any of these disciplines. The standard 9-month teaching load is 12 contact hours per semester (2 courses that include lecture and accompanying lab). The option is available to engage undergraduates in research, either through coursework or in directed projects during the summer, with funding available for mentoring students in summer research.
Individuals from historically underrepresented groups and those who share our commitment to inclusion and diversity are strongly encouraged to apply. Austin College faculty pride themselves in providing a welcoming working community. Austin College is also an emerging (24%) Hispanic-serving institution (HSI) and serves a majority-minority population.
