Position Overview:

As a Senior Environmental Scientist, you will play a crucial role in promoting sustainability, minimizing environmental impacts, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations from project development through project lifespan. You will be responsible for conducting research, developing strategies, and implementing initiatives that contribute to our environmental goals and objectives. Your expertise will guide our company in making informed decisions that align with environmental best practices, enhance our corporate image, and support long-term sustainability.

Location: Nashville, TN or Remote

Reporting to Director Health, Safety, Security, Environmental (HSSE)

Key Responsibilities

Environmental Research and Analysis:
  • Conduct thorough research on environmental trends, regulations, and best practices to stay updated with emerging issues and technologies.
  • Analyze the potential environmental impacts of our company's operations, projects, and services, identifying areas for improvement and innovation.
Environmental Strategy and Planning:
  • Develop and implement environmental strategies, policies, and programs to reduce our company's ecological footprint.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate environmental considerations into business operations, project development, and supply chain management.
  • Set measurable environmental goals, establish targets, and create action plans to achieve sustainability objectives.
Compliance and Regulatory Affairs:
  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international environmental regulations and standards.
  • Monitor and assess environmental risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, participate in audits, and manage environmental permits and reporting requirements.
  • Environmental Impact Assessment:
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments for new projects, initiatives, or operational changes, providing recommendations for minimizing negative effects.
  • Identify and assess potential environmental risks associated with business activities and develop and implement risk management strategies.
Sustainability Reporting and Communication:
  • Prepare accurate and comprehensive reports on environmental performance, including greenhouse gas emissions, energy usage, waste management, and water consumption.
  • Communicate environmental initiatives and progress to internal stakeholders, executive management, and external partners, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.
Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Engage with stakeholders, such as government agencies, NGOs, industry groups, and communities, to understand their concerns and collaborate on environmental initiatives.
  • Represent the company in environmental forums, conferences, and industry working groups, sharing expertise and contributing to thought leadership.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in corporate environmental management, sustainability, or related roles.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, policies, and best practices.
  • Ability to conduct environmental impact assessments and risk assessments.
  • Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, CDP).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and the use of relevant software tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
