About Us- Flavor & Ingredient Research Team

Our team is researching and developing the most advanced science and technology in the beverage industry to help drive business related innovation and growth. We continuously leverage external technological development into our research programs and drive innovation for positive business impact. This role is a global thought leader, technical subject matter expert and influencer. The ideal candidate is an experienced sensory researcher / psychophysicist focused on chemosensory (chemical, biological and biophysical) mechanisms of flavor perception and preference, derived from a background in taste psychology, biology, physiology and neurobiology. The research will primarily focus on cross modal interactions between taste, aroma and mouthfeel perceptions

Key Responsibilities:
  • The candidate is expected to, in close collaboration with research scientists from other disciplines (chemistry, biology, biophysics, neurobiology, food and flavor science), provide new insights into sensory perception mechanisms, leading to the discovery and development of new ingredients and systems, to provide superior tasting products.
  • The candidate will be responsible for developing an improved fundamental understanding of the sensing of taste, aroma and mouthfeel as it relates to the consumption of sweetened beverages.
  • Design, develop and execute sensory methodologies to identify and characterize cross-modal interactions between beverage system components and how it impacts overall perception of taste, aroma and mouthfeel.
  • Develop and lead specialized descriptive analysis (DA) panels, train panelists for research sensory
  • Conduct sensory research to establish connection between flavor perception, and chemistry and biology of taste.
  • Connect and translate consumer insights data to sensory perception and back to ingredients.
  • Be the subject matter expert in human sensory research for the Flavor and Ingredient Research team while being connected and engaged with the community of sensory and consumer research scientists and various sensory panels across the Company.
  • Be aware of latest scientific developments and innovations in sensory research, stay connected with leading industry experts, educate internal teams and recommend actions.
  • Lead collaborations with external partners on sensory methodologies and support mouthfeel and sweet taste research projects.
  • Collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to deliver projects according to established timelines and budget.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally within the organization to accomplish business-critical initiatives.

Qualification & Requirements:
  • Masters or Doctorate degree in psychophysics/taste psychology/sensory science. Additional degrees in the Biological Sciences highly preferred.
  • 5+ years experience in the field of sensory research with proven experience in connecting sensory to the biology and chemistry of taste.
  • Working knowledge of sensory assessment of food/beverage ingredients and sweeteners, including descriptive analysis (panel leading, data analysis and result reporting).
  • Must have experience designing, developing and executing sensory research plans.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities based on business needs.
  • Ability to lead and influence in an agile and networked environment.
  • Effective communication at all levels of an organization.
  • Building Technical Relationships: Ability to apply technical knowledge and establish credibility with highly technical audiences to build technical relationships.
