FHI 360 seeks an Environment and Climate Change Technical Advisor I (TA I) to support the growth of FHI 360's work in the environment and climate change (ECC) sectors. The position will be part of the Economic Participation and Environment (EPE) portfolio, an exciting, high profile, versatile, and growing technical team. FHI 360 demonstrates its diverse technical strengths and global presence in economic development, civil society and peacebuilding, education and health to address challenges and pursue opportunities at the intersections of economic participation and green jobs and the green economy, climate and conflict, climate and education, gender and social inclusion, among many others. Through this work, FHI 360 is addressing the complex global challenges brought on by the climate crisis and building resiliency among the most vulnerable populations.
The Technical Advisor I will work with the EPE Portfolio team to develop and support the implementation of technical strategies; research, design and develop programs and tools, contribute substantially to thought leadership internally and externally, identify and secure financial resources, and build staff capacity in the environment and climate change sectors. Further, they will provide guidance to ensure that program design and implementation adheres to appropriate technical standards and guidelines. The Technical Advisor I will coordinate and collaborate closely with FHI 360's other technical and geographic operating units to leverage FHI 360's expertise across the organization.

The expected hiring salary range for this role is listed below. FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.
Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.
Hiring Salary Range: $85,000 - $157,000

Responsibilities
Technical Assistance
- Provide technical assistance and advisory support to existing and future FHI 360 projects in environment and climate change-related subjects, and help ensure technical excellence, innovation, and impact.
- Develop tools for the design and implementation of specific technical components of projects that are aligned with international standard processes in the environment and climate change sectors.
- As needed and requested, review, analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of programs/projects and make recommendations to increase impact.
- Provide capacity building support to staff to orient them to and build awareness and understanding of ECC and its intersection with other sectors.
- As needed, provide technical support for FHI 360 internal sustainability programming, including the Net Zero initiative.
Thought Leadership
- Contribute to the effective integration of new business development, thought leadership, and implementation.
- Contribute to monitoring, research, evaluation and learning, including implementing robust research/learning agendas and committing to continuous learning.
- Support technical thought leadership initiatives and serve as an organizational liaison to external organizations at professional meetings and/or conferences focused on environment and climate change.
- Develop and maintain relationships and increase the visibility of the EPE/ECC portfolio, including with key donors, funders, the private sector and strategic partners.
- Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with all FHI 360 technical units, ensuring the innovative use of EPE/ECC expertise to support projects in other sectors.
- Inform ECC programming innovation with the latest industry research and sector trends, translating information into strategic direction, implementation options and organizational positioning.
- Identify, secure funding for, oversee the development and launching of new technical products, services and research in line with EPE/ECC's priority areas and demand.
Strategic Planning and Business Development
- Support ECC priority setting and strategy discussions to reflect technical excellence, potential for impact, and our unique value add.
- Lead developing strategies to grow the EPE/ECC portfolio.
- Support the growth of FHI 360's environment and climate change portfolio by identifying, positioning for, pursuing and securing funding for program implementation in ECC-related areas.
- Manage and/or contribute technically to capture management and proposal design as assigned; working with HQ and field technical staff and other units to develop innovative and responsive programs.
- Manage and/or contribute significantly to proposal budgets, workplans, management plans and MEL plans.
- Collect data and information for inclusion in proposals.
- Assist with development of institutional cape statements, PPRs, capturing and managing portfolio capabilities and marketing materials.
Qualifications
- Master's degree or its international equivalent in climate change, environment, natural resource management, biodiversity conservation or a related field.
- 8-10 or more years of program leadership in one or more of the following areas: climate change, natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, pollution prevention, ecosystem services, water resource management, or renewable energy.
- Track record of securing donor funding for environment and climate change activities.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and managing complex projects that are strategic in nature and national/international in scope.
- Experience in the development of Environmental Mitigation and Monitoring Plans (EMMPs) and/or Climate Risk Management Plans (CRMPs), preferred.
- Has sensitivity to cultural diversity and understanding of the political, contextual, and ethical issues in assigned areas.
- Able to communicate in a clear, positive fashion with clients and staff.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
Technology to be Used
