NAFO is seeking a talented and motivated professional to serve as Director for Policy. The Director will help plan and execute NAFO's federal policy, regulatory, and legal strategies, and lead the sourcing and use of data, information, and analysis to support NAFO's advocacy competencies.

The Director works closely with the Vice President for Policy & Regulatory Affairs and other staff as part of an advocacy team that succeeds by building and maintaining trust with each other, member companies, peers and policymakers through good faith collaboration, effective management, quality execution and strong communication.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with the development and prioritization of a strategic policy and regulatory agenda to position private working forests as a policy solution and minimize regulatory risk.
  • Monitor, analyze, and prepare recommendations on legislative, legal, and regulatory opportunities and threats affecting policy priorities.
  • Lead collection, curation, and analysis of data and information supporting policy and regulatory priorities, communications, and strategic initiatives.
  • Engage federal policy experts to advance policy priorities through education, on-the-record comments, and stakeholder processes.
  • Manage member-led policy task groups, external consultants, and coalition participation in coordination with the Vice President for Policy & Regulatory Affairs.
Experience
  • 5+ years federal policy/regulatory experience, including government, NGO, law firm, corporate, or trade association work. Experience with natural resource or climate issues preferred.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with an eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage diverse stakeholders, lead group processes, and resolve complex problems.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills and the ability to translate research into policy-relevant and actionable messages.
  • Experience building relationships with peers, policymakers, academics, and influencers.
  • Proven ability to implement and manage multiple priorities, consultants, and projects in a demanding, fast-paced, and dynamic work environment.
