As part of the continued growth and innovation of our Capital Project Delivery services, ERM has an opportunity for an experienced leader to join our thriving global consulting firm as a Principal Consultant, Mining and Telecom /Impact Assessment (Mining and Telecom Sectors) in Alaska and the US. We are looking for an established leader who is interested in being part of ERM's successful global mining and Telecom communities - an outstanding professional who combines strong National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) consulting and business development skills with a strong technical foundation - to foster and expand a network of excellent client relationships.T he ideal candidate will have established client and regulatory agency relationships, along with technical expertise leading the preparation of impact assessments and development of permits for capital projects in Alaska and North America.
ERM's Impact Assessment SERVICE AREA:
ERM's Impact Assessment service area in the U.S. focuses on supporting development of projects in the mining, telecom, energy, and power sectors. Our approach is to work with our clients to identify their environmental and social impacts and risks throughout the project lifecycle so that they can be managed - from early stages of project conception through closure implementation. Our goal is to move client projects from planning phases to sustainable operations in a way that meets the expectations of investors, regulators and local communities.
ERM combines experience with global standards, such as the Equator Principles and International Finance Corporation's Performance Standards, with a thorough understanding of federal and state regulatory requirements and social/cultural sensitivities. We apply state-of-the-art assessment tools, from GIS to modeling and visualization techniques. ERM's Impact Assessment service area has been ERM's highest growth service area globally, growing over 20% per year for the past 5 years alone. ERM's technical community is known for supporting some of the most challenging development projects in Alaska, the US, and the world. It is this reputation that attracts and retains the highly skilled consultants who comprise ERM's Impact Assessment team.

ROLE PROFILE:
Primary focus is on capital project delivery and impact assessment, client account development, sales, and delivery of the full spectrum of consulting services to deliver strategic value to our clients.In particular, this is a key role in growing ERM's Impact Assessment business across its broad portfolio of service offerings, both domestically and internationally, including:
- Environmental (climate & air, integrated water, wildlife/biodiversity & ecosystems)
- Social performance (Indigenous and stakeholder engagement, economic, archaeology, and human health)
- Impact assessment and permitting
- Management and monitoring plans
- Regulatory strategy
- Project siting studies
- Compliance monitoring
In this role, you will:
- Collaborate with other ERM Partners, senior consultants and our diverse technical support teams to actively develop commercial strategies to pursue and win new business opportunities that result in significant revenue growth with clients aligned with ERM's global strategy.
- Provide business value, raising the profile of ERM's capabilities and selling strategically within client organizations.
- Work in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment to build ERM's global business.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS/MS in environmental science, engineering, biology, geology or other natural resource field.
- 15+ years of demonstrated capital project delivery, impact assessment and/or permitting experience in the mining or telecom industry sectors.
- In-depth understanding of the mining industry, including juniors, mid-tier and major miners and existing industry relationships that can be leveraged into new business.
- In-depth understanding of subsea and terrestrial fiber optic broadband networks.
