Ivy Tech Bloomington is searching for part-time adjunct faculty to teach a variety of courses starting this upcoming fall semester. Specifically BIOL 105: Cellular & Molecular Processes and/or BIOL 107: Diversity of Life. There could also be availability for BIOL 101: Intro Biology and BIOL 211: Microbiology. We need individuals who are local who can teach on campus for lecture and lab. Also searching for instructors who are available in the evening because some courses are in the evening.

Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
  • Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
  • Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials.
  • Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
  • Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with
  • Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on
    engaging students with their learning (curricular).
  • Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations.
  • Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety

    procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.

Minimum Qualifications:

A qualified faculty member in biology meets the discipline standard through one of two routes:

1. Possesses an earned master's or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in a biological science, or

2. Possesses an earned master's or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in any field with 18 graduate semester hours* in biology-related courses.

*Up to six graduate credits in the field of study/discipline focusing on instructional methodology in the appropriate discipline and at the appropriate level will be counted towards the 18 required graduate hours.

Faculty teaching 100-level science labs must hold a bachelor's degree in the field, with an additional nine or more graduate hours in the subject matter.
