We are looking for a driven, qualified, and motivated Environmental Manager for our Eastern & Central PA asphalt and aggregates businesses. This position is based out of our Allentown, PA office.
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO

This position ensures compliance with all environmental laws, regulations, and permits applicable to the Heidelberg Materials operations in their area of responsibility in the Region. This is achieved by identifying requirements to be performed by Heidelberg Materials and developing strategies to meet these requirements. The strategies must utilize available human, technical, and physical resources, both internal and external, to fully accomplish these requirements. Success is building and sustaining a culture of environmental stewardship as core values within all activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and company policies and procedures and effectively communicate applicable requirements to a variety of operations personnel
  • Review current and proposed permits, laws, and regulations to analyze their impacts on the assigned Heidelberg Materials facilities and effectively communicate those impacts to management
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations
  • Prepare and submit documents such as environmental permit applications, plans, and reports by the required due dates enabling the continued operation of Heidelberg Materials facilities
  • Manage environmental and legal consultants performing work for Heidelberg Materials
  • Assist in planning and permitting of changes in physical facilities to meet environmental requirements
  • Assist in implementation of policies and procedures to ensure practices are in compliance with the applicable environmental and land use permits, laws, and regulations
  • Investigate and facilitate resolution of compliance problems, questions, or complaints received from within the company, customers, government regulatory agencies and/or the public
  • Assist in due diligence investigations
  • Communicate with company personnel, regulators, and consultants on all environmental issues related to Heidelberg Materials facilities in area of responsibility
  • Populate, update, and maintain the environmental compliance management computer system for assigned facilities
  • Regularly evaluate Heidelberg Materials environmental compliance at assigned facilities and effectively communicate issues of non-compliance to management
  • Maintain applicable reports, records, and other environmental documentation
  • Educate staff in the company on relevant environmental issues and regulations, including related company policies
  • Successfully complete assigned training provided by Heidelberg Materials
  • Ensure compliance requirements are met through organizational and procedural measures including implementation of corporate guidelines, conducting training and monitoring compliance

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
  • Bachelor's degree in a related environmental, scientific, or engineering discipline. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years environmental experience in the mining, concrete, asphalt, or similar industry
  • Must be able to perform detailed work with limited oversight on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraints while advancing long-term priorities
  • Ability to independently audit and inspect industrial operations, identifying compliant or non-compliant environmental issues, and effectively communicate those findings to Heidelberg Materials management
  • Ability to independently develop and implement effective environmental compliance strategies and management systems including management plans
  • Ability to effectively communicate required compliance activities to Heidelberg Materials employees who responsible for performing them
  • Willingness to perform administrative functions such as scanning, copying, mailing, filing, and data entry.
  • Working knowledge of all environmental laws and regulations affecting Heidelberg Materials operations in the assigned area of responsibility including, aggregate production, ready mix concrete manufacturing, asphalt manufacturing, and ancillary operations
  • Experience and demonstrated ability managing a multi-media environmental program, including air, process water and stormwater quality, bulk petroleum storage, hazardous waste and materials, biological species issues, mining reclamation, and others
  • Ability to prepare environmental permit applications and reports for submittal to external parties including regulatory agencies
  • Ability to understand, evaluate, interpret and explain multiple complex inputs and provide clear communication with internal and external parties in a collaborative, positive manner, representing Heidelberg Materials‘ interests
  • Competence with computing software including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD, and/or ArcGIS
  • Must have and maintain a Driver's License valid in the state(s) of the assigned facilities

Work Environment
  • Role operates in both a professional office environment as well as conducting business at manufacturing locations and job sites where the conditions include moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels and walking on uneven surfaces
