Job Description
The Staff Scientist will be responsible for performing field data collection, sampling (soil, groundwater, soil vapor, and surface water), and office tasks (including field activity planning, preparation, and summary reporting) to support hazardous site and brownfield investigations under Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation IRule, BRELLA, and BERA Programs. Successful candidate could also receive cross training and potential alternative assignments based on workload that might include conducting facility inspections, conducting PCB, asbestos or lead assessments, and overseeing subcontractor work.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Educational Requirements:
4 year college degree in Geology, Engineering, Environmental Sciences or related field of study

Job Description
The Staff Scientist will be responsible for performing field data collection, sampling (soil, groundwater, soil vapor, and surface water), and office tasks (including field activity planning, preparation, and summary reporting) to support hazardous site and brownfield investigations under Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation IRule, BRELLA, and BERA Programs. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Collect soil, soil vapor, and groundwater samples
- Perform operation maintenance of soil and groundwater remediation systems
- Organizing and prioritizing a diverse workload; maintaining accurate records
- Oversee soil borings and monitoring well installations
- Conduct data analysis and interpretation of field and analytical data
- Preparation of technical reports including but not limited to proposals, work plans, environmental reports, permit applications, and health safety plans
- Assist with Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments
- Ability to communicate and work constructively with others
- Perform environmental, health and safety services
- Assist with industrial hygiene projects
Educational Requirements:
4 year college degree in Geology, Engineering, Environmental Sciences or related field of study
Technical Requirements:
- 3-5 years of relevant experience
- Proficient in MS Office, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and other widely used computer programs
- Possess excellent communications and interpersonal skills, and be able to work effectively with minimum supervision
- Excellent skills in technical writing and verbal communications
- 40-hour HAZWOPER certification a plus
- Knowledgeable of VT DEC Irule, BRELLA, and BERA Programs
- Working vehicle
- Proficiency in AutoCAD desired
- A valid driver's license and must be able to pass a MVR
- Awareness of behavior-based safety culture and acts accordingly
- Ability to work in various environments and weather conditions
- Ability to work in fast paced environment
