Senior Research Associate 2 - Cardiac Cell Biology

The Cardiovascular (CV) Research Group at BioMarin is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our group of CV disease-focused research scientists. The position offers a unique opportunity to develop therapeutics from the early exploratory stage across a wide range of genetic cardiomyopathies, with ample opportunity for career growth within the company. The successful candidate will be a proactive self-starter, with clear passion to progress scientific discoveries, and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced collaborative team environment. The individual will communicate scientific findings at team meetings and at other forums throughout the company. The successful candidate will partner closely with other senior research associates and scientists with different skillsets to support the discovery and pre-clinical development of a wide-range of therapeutic modalities. This position entails primarily laboratory-based work that will be performed onsite with occasional responsibilities on weekends.

Requirements:

· Technical experience in cardiac cell biology, cell signaling, genetics, gene therapy and molecular biology.
  • Investigate, identify, develop, and optimize assays and cellular for cardiac disease.

· Working experience with adherent cells, plate-based assays, cardiac functional assays and cell imaging.

· Technical experience in the developmentof reporter, proliferation, potency, survival, functional or cell signaling assays using lentiviral or other viral / non-viral gene transduction systems in mammalian cells (primary cells, immortalized cell lines, and / or iPSC-derivatives).

· Must be able to work in a team environment, with a proven track record of productive research experience demonstrated through publications, patents or IND filings.

· Participates and presents data at team and department meetings, often taking the primary lead on projects.

· Advanced skills in experimental design, data analysis, and data presentation, preferably acquired from an industry setting.

· Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills with ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.

  • Prior experience culturing and differentiating iPSC-derived cell types for mechanistic studies is a must.

· Experience with the following is a plus: functional cardiomyocyte assays, assessment of cardiac cell function, confocal microscopy, high content microscopy, live cell imaging.

Education & Experience Guidelines:

· Bachelor's degree with 8 years of experience; Master's degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience
