The Clinical Biomarkers & Diagnostics (CBD) department at Amgen is looking for a highly motivated Computational Biologist with expertise in clinical bioinformatics, biomarker development, assay development, ML algorithms & data science, statistical modeling, handling clinical data sets and a background in biology and computational sciences. This is a highly visible, individual contributor role. Therefore, preference will be given to candidates with prior experience within matrix environments and those having the expertise to support clinical development. In this vital role you will:

The Clinical Biomarkers & Diagnostics (CBD) department at Amgen is looking for a highly motivated Computational Biologist with expertise in clinical bioinformatics, biomarker development, assay development, ML algorithms & data science, statistical modeling, handling clinical data sets and a background in biology and computational sciences. This is a highly visible, individual contributor role. Therefore, preference will be given to candidates with prior experience within matrix environments and those having the expertise to support clinical development. In this vital role you will:
- Support the development of clinical biomarkers and diagnostics for Amgen programs through the formulation and implementation of biomarker data analysis
- Perform assessment of biochemical coverage, patient stratification, indication selection in Amgens early and late clinical development programs and discovery of clinical insights at asset and portfolio levels through the application of knowledge discovery and data mining techniques
- Develop translational analysis methods to enable the analysis of NGS data/Epigenomics assays/single-cell assays from clinical trials
- Develop translational informatics analysis workflows in a high-content, multi-omics, multi-modal data domain encompassing genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and epigenomics domains
- Develop innovative best-practices for the next generation of clinical bioinformatics, such as the utilization of ctDNA-derived tumor burden as a prognostic biomarker/surrogate end point
- Work with biologists, especially in immuno-oncology, to leverage information on targeted biological pathways along with development of computational algorithms to manage and mine internal and external genomics and other high-content databases
- Provide leadership and expertise to the function in the areas of algorithm development, bioinformatics, data integration & management, visualization, analysis, and presentation
- Represent the clinical biomarkers & diagnostics team in some Amgen program/portfolio teams as a biomarker analysis lead
- Participate in diagnostics assay and vendor evaluation and selection by providing inputs from computational perspective
- Interface cross-functionally with the early development teams, assay laboratories, in-vitro diagnostics and biomarker representatives

Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Bioengineering or a related field with expertise and experience in drug development, biomarkers and diagnostics
- Working knowledge of bioinformatics, applied mathematics and/or statistics to analyze multi-modal, multi-dimensional and large-scale biological data sets such as those from next-generation sequencing DNASeq, RNASeq and proteomics assays
- Working knowledge of platforms and readouts used for the assessment of clinical biomarkers including flow cytometry, IHC, NGS, immunoassays, imaging and transcriptional profiling assays
- Ability to translate biological and medical questions into analytical models providing measurable results
- Working knowledge and experience of Machine Learning and AI technologies; Experience of applying ML/AI in clinical trial setting is a plus
- Experience with Python and/or R and associated data-processing and aware of good programming practices
- Excellent communicator with the ability to distill complex issues and clearly articulate solutions with dynamic social skills, situational awareness and the ability to influence, motivate, and work in a multidisciplinary setting
