Job Summary

Saint-Gobain's North American R&D center is looking for a driven, talented, and energetic entry level researcher to join our current team in conducting hands-on laboratory experiments for key development programs and operations within the thermal processing laboratory. Projects will focus on advanced ceramic process and product development activities related to applications utilizing electrochemical, thermal, and mechanical properties. Phases of development include material science research, process development and the implementation of this R&D work into pilot scale manufacturing. The selected candidate will be joining the Ceramic Processing group based at the Saint-Gobain Research North America site (MA, USA).

The main responsibilities are:
  • Operate thermal equipment housed with the Ceramic Materials and Processing group in support of the business units located at SGRNA.
  • Provide technical support within the thermal processing lab understanding the operational and safety aspects of high temperature furnaces.
  • Interact with lab users to help guide their thermal processing experiments, train users, and insure run quality.
  • Manage sample flow in and out of the lab, perform data analysis, and develop/implement preventative maintenance plans resulting in high equipment uptime.
  • Plan and execute equipment upgrades and installation based on evolving customer needs based on interactions throughout the research center.
  • Contribute to and lead a variety of research and development projects involving ceramic processing and characterization while collaborating with business unit colleagues. Carries short projects or studies through to successful completion.
  • Submit technical reports on project progress and results.
  • Train operators on safe operation of equipment in lab.

COMPETENCIES:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to solve technical problems by combining literature search, scientific knowledge, and hands-on experiments.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors' degree in Ceramic Engineering, Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering
  • Development, processing or testing of ceramics or glass, preferred
  • Manufacturing product development, preferred
  • Operation and maintenance of high temperature furnaces, preferred
