Position Specifications

This is an advanced-level managerial position that is multi-faceted and is responsible for Airport-wide leadership in the environmental arena including air, water, and waste program management, and is also responsible for Airport employees' occupational health and safety. The incumbent is the primary interface with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as internal/external customers with respect to sustainable operations and the Airport Environmental Management System (EMS). The successful candidate will be responsible for managing assigned environmental programs for compliance with federal, state, regional, county city, or airport system rules or regulations; conducting detailed scientific investigations relating to environmental matters, drafting and submitting monthly and quarterly reports; identifying grant opportunities and preparing application documents to support current environmental and/or health/safety programs and/or to provide funding for additional programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related field; plus seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in environmental, health, and safety programs including some experience in the aviation industry; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Documentation of academic credentials must be submitted upon request.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in air, water, and soil pollution control, solid waste and hazardous materials management, toxic material control, and wastewater management is highly desirable.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of their DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or upon request. The Director of Personnel may, in their discretion, accept alternate documentation.

CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.

Employees assigned to St. Louis Lambert International Airport may be eligible for a commuting allowance of $141.00 bi-weekly. A ten-year character investigation will be conducted in accordance with FAA regulations for positions with the Airport Authority.
