Our client, a nationwide leader in renewable energy, has an immediate need for an experienced Health Safety & Environment Specialist, to join their winning team in Linden.

Our candidate of choice will be responsible for management of HS&E programs in support of the organizational goals of the company including development, implementation, and sustainability of our HS&E policies, with support of the home office.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide general industrial safety, ergonomics and industrial hygiene improvement strategies and strategic support for production and project operations.
Oversee H&S programs including respiratory protection, hearing conservation, personal protective equipment, hazard communication, Control of Hazardous Energy (LO/TO), electrical safety, machine guarding, fall protection, & confined space.
Provide HS&E expertise and support to required programs as deemed necessary (PSM, etc.).
Prepare, revise, and update health and safety programs and procedures to meet changing needs in the organization and through changing regulations.
Support our facility in maintaining compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Ensure compliance with air, wastewater, stormwater, solid/hazardous waste State & Federal regulations through strategic planning and tactical measures including training, training management, etc.
Facilitate activities to maintain any quality requirements in an integrated management system.

Prepare information to be used for reports to regulatory agencies.
Serve as lead escort for any external and internal regulatory audits at facilities and drive corrective actions to closure for any identified opportunities.
Implement regulatory training development, audits, inspections and record keeping.

Review/approve all new and changes to equipment and processes for potential risks to health, safety or environment at our facility.
Use technical writing skills and sound HS&E experience in engineering, operations and maintenance to review and/or develop, finalize and publish necessary HS&E policies and procedures with support from Corporate HS&E.
Preparing cost estimates as needed to support improvement initiatives.
Gain understanding of fluid bed gasifier designs along with typical waste to energy systems.
Build relationships with team members, contractors, vendors and suppliers.
Be available on-call and weekends at certain times of year to meet requirements for site visits, project team meetings, meetings with regulatory entities, site inspections, and/or meetings with clients and vendors.
PO monitoring and expediting as needed to support HS&E requirements.
Field support including startup, commissioning, and project HS&E controls.
Other duties as assigned.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

Degree preferred.
CSP certification preferred or on a path to obtain certification.
5+ years of experience in health, safety, and environmental field within the manufacturing, chemical/petro-chemical, or waste to energy fields preferred.
Demonstrated ability to learn new skills quickly, multitask and prioritize work.
Experience in recording/writing detailed health, safety, and environmental reports.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with multiple levels of organization.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in team environments.
Good judgement, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to interpret, summarize and communicate complex information to achieve results.
Facilitation skills (Hazop, Training, RCA, etc.).
Excellent innovation and problem-solving skills.
Good technical and report writing skills.
Effective planning skills preferred.
MS Office, Microsoft Project, ERP software, Learning Management Systems (LMS).
