Environmental Engineer
Houston, TX
Secure and maintain all environmental permits (air, water, industrial and hazardous waste, and nuclear/infrared certifications) to include application completions, submittals, renewals and amendments. Ensure regulatory compliance through monitoring, testing, and preparing reports to city, state and federal agencies including City of Houston, TCEQ and EPA. (Water, Air, and Industrial and Hazardous Waste). Inspect manufacturing facility to evaluate and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. Monitor and improve sustainability goals for slip-sheet/tier sheet and post-consumer resin production and recycling processes with EREMA recycling equipment. Monitor Explosion Exposure Levels in processing equipment. Conduct routine chemical evaluations of incoming chemicals or compounds to incorporate in the manufacturing process. Establish and control all Material Data Sheets of all Products used in the process. Authorize the potential new products to be incorporated in the manufacturing process. Train personnel on Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Waste Management, Hazard Communication, Food Safety, Good Manufacturing Practices, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points. Provide technical support for environmental remediation, including system design and determination of regulatory applicability. Collaborate with other engineers and management to address environmental problems. Ensure new projects comply with environmental regulations. Design and develop environmental control systems. Compliance monitoring, compliance testing, auditing, and preparation of regulatory reports to city, state and federal agencies. Secure and maintain air permits and specific conditions related to the TCEQ requirements for demonstrating compliance. Conduct routine audits for compliance and provide briefings to upper management on compliance with environmental regulations.
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering with Minor in Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience securing and maintaining environmental permits and nuclear/infrared Certifications, as well as two (2) years of experience in extrusion and recycling of Polyethylene products with EREMA recycling equipment - including incorporating post-consumer and post-industrial polyethylene into manufacturing process. Must also hold any experience with environmental regulations and compliance of air and water quality, industrial waste, hazardous waste, and nuclear/infrared certifications.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: An understanding of causes of greenhouse gas emissions and mitigation measures. Knowledge of chemical compounds (most of which are designated toxins), present in inks and coatings. Must be capable of analyzing vast amounts of plant and process data collected minute by minute for multiple manufacturing equipment.
