We are looking for a full-time Associate Biologist - National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Specialist . The position will provide mentorship and growth opportunity for early-career or mid-level biologists. All WEST biologists are supported by a team of technical and non-technical staff, which sets new team members up for success. The minimum base salary for this position is $52,000, plus benefits and annual bonus. Salary may vary based on education, knowledge, and experience.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be an independent, self-motivated individual with relevant experience and knowledge in natural resources, as well as writing for both technical and non-technical audiences. The successful candidate will have strong writing skills and be responsible for supporting our NEPA and solar practice areas. Specific experience with NEPA writing and analysis, general environmental planning and consulting, leading or working on large scale projects, and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams of biologists, resource specialists, and other technical and non-technical staff is of particular interest. This position will be primarily office-based, but may also include periodic field work and require travel and overnight stays for fieldwork or in-person client and/or agency meetings.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


Support WEST's NEPA project managers to help develop legally sound NEPA documents (i.e., Environmental Impact Statements, Environmental Assessments, and Categorical Exclusions).
Support development of a variety of other reports, including pre- and post-construction survey work, Critical Issues Analyses, or other state or federal permitting documents and regulatory compliance strategies.
Assist with habitat assessments and natural resources field surveys.
Help maintain WEST's position as thought leaders in the environmental consulting market.

Job Requirements

Requirements:


Minimum of a bachelor's degree in environmental planning, biological sciences, natural resources, ecology, or similar field. Preference will be given to candidates with 1-2 years of previous consulting experience or a master's degree.
Previous NEPA analysis training or experience is preferred but not required.
Strong writing skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail and accurately reportscientific methods, results of field studies, and other scientific concepts to a broad range of audiences.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Good time management and organizational skills, with the ability to workwell under time constraints and meet deliverable targets and deadlines.
Able to work independently and interact professionally and respectfully with project managers and other project staff, clients, landowners, and agency personnel.
Available for occasional travel and overnight stays.

After an offer of employment is made, the candidate must successfully pass a pre- employment background check, drug screening, and a DMV records check that meets WEST's minimum criteria to operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company. A valid driver's license will be required.
