SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE:
We are seeking an innovative scientist to drive Exelixis' Tumor Biology in Oncology Discovery. Under the collaborative environment, the successful candidate will apply cellular and molecular biology for novel target identification and validation, assay development, identification, and validation of pharmacodynamic and predictive biomarkers to establish PK/PD/efficacy relationship, and elucidation of MoA and combination strategies to guide the discovery of life-changing cancer therapies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead oncology biology teams in cross-functional meetings and generate critical data to drive pipeline programs toward the clinic
• Develop target discovery strategies and deliver key data by collaborating with multiple functional teams including tumor biologists, in vitro and in vivo pharmacology, bioinformatics, DMPK, translational research, and chemistry to drive discovery targets toward the clinic
• Communicate findings at internal and external meetings
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Directing work (direct reports depending on the previous working and management experience)
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in cellular and molecular biology, cancer biology, immunology, genetics, or similar field and a minimum of 11 years of relevant experience; or,
• Master's degree in cellular and molecular biology, cancer biology, immunology, genetics, or similar field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or
• PhD degree in cellular and molecular biology, cancer biology, immunology, or similar field and a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience leading discovery programs; or
• Equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience:
• Successful track record in advancing multi-disciplinary drug-discovery projects
• Experience in oncology biology including identification and validation of novel targets for the development of therapeutics
• Extensive expertise in biological experimental techniques including RT-qPCR, western blot, ELISA, IHC/ISH/IF, cell-based assays, FACs analysis, RNA-seq etc.
• Experience in cell culture, stable cell line establishment, gene manipulation including gain-of-function or loss-of-function studies, CRISPR engineering
• Strong capability with record keeping, data summarizing, and interpreting
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
• Knowledge in solid tumor biology, cancer signaling pathways, oncogenes, or tumor suppressor genes in cancer
• Strong scientific and technological knowledge
• Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
• Strong oral and written communication and good organizational abilities
• Strong scientific expertise demonstrated by track record of publications
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Environment: working in both wet lab and office environment

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this position is $131,500 - $195,500 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate's geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors.In addition to the base salary, as part of our Total Rewards program, Exelixis offers comprehensive employee benefits package, including a 401k plan with generous company contributions, group medical, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, and flexible spending accounts. Employees are also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus program, or if field sales staff, a sales-based incentive plan. Exelixis also offers employees the opportunity to purchase company stock, and receive long-term incentives, 15 accrued vacation days in their first year, 17 paid holidays including a company-wide winter shutdown in December, and up to 10 sick days throughout the calendar year.
