Surrozen is a biotechnology company focused on discovering and developing novel regenerative medicines with a focus on unlocking the powerful self-renewal properties of the body through specific control of the Wnt signaling pathway.

Our vision is to engage the body's own biological tissue repair mechanisms with our targeted regenerative antibodies, overcoming research and development hurdles that have been previously intractable, and have held back drug development efforts in the promising area of Wnt biology.

The Senior Research Associate position in the Discovery Biology group is a great opportunity for experienced associates to expand their skills in leading technologies in molecular biology including disease tissue profiling and organoid technology. The candidate will play a leading role in exploring Wnt signaling pathway in various disease areas, to understand the mechanism of action of molecules, and to support clinical development of lead candidates. The preferred candidate will bring enthusiasm, intellectual curiosity, scientific integrity, and a desire to understand biological principles of developing regenerative medicine therapeutics.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate on multiple projects simultaneously and work as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Analyze and interpret data, present findings in group presentations.
  • Preparation of technical reports, summaries and detailed protocols, and contribute to company reports as requested.
  • Maintain mammalian (organoid) cell culture and apply gene expression studies and in vitro functional assays (e.g., RT-qPCR, reporter assays, proliferation assays).
  • Develop and optimize protocols for primary cell isolation, including the use of FACS/MACS, in preparation for cell culture or scRNA-seq.
  • Investigate gene expression of biologically relevant models and clinical tissue samples by RT-qPCR, RNA in situ hybridization, and immunohistochemistry.
  • BS in Molecular/Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline with 4+ years of experience, or MS in in Molecular/Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline with 3+ years of experience.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture assays (3D-cultures, primary cells, cell lines) and molecular biology (RNA isolation, RT-qPCR, molecular cloning, CRISPR and western blotting).
  • Experience deploying fluorescence microscopy, immunohistochemistry and RNA in situ hybridization in primary cells and tissue sections is preferred.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, work independently, to communicate effectively, and attention to detail is critical
  • Enjoys problem solving and is interested in learning and troubleshooting new techniques and experiments
