Job Title: Scientific Analyst

Description (scope of work)
IBSS is seeking a Full Time Analyst to provide Management Strategy Evaluation support to the Ecosystem Dynamics and Assessment Branch of the Northeast Fisheries Science Center, within NOAA Fisheries.

Key Responsibilities: Project management: Coordinate Ecosystem and Socioeconomic Profile reporting for Northeast U.S. fish stocks. Initiate collaborations with scientists and subject matter experts within and outside of the Northeast Fisheries Science Center. Plan and lead meetings. Track progress towards objectives and deliverables.
Data analysis and methods development: Identify suitable data for inclusion in Ecosystem and Socioeconomic Profiles. As needed, perform data manipulations and analyses. Document processes on GitHub. Establish best practices for data development and statistical analyses.
Writing: Lead and contribute to written Ecosystem and Socioeconomic Profile reports and associated working papers. Ensure that information is complete, accurate, and cited appropriately. Contribute to additional written products, such as manuscripts.
Presentations: Present Ecosystem and Socioeconomic Profile updates, information, and results to collaborators, colleagues, and stakeholders as needed. Prepare slides and write presentations. Audiences may include groups of collaborators, stock assessment working groups, Fisheries Management Councils, and more. May include virtual and in-person presentations. Assist with planning and logistics of program and project team meetings/workshops and help develop agendas, written documents, meeting minutes, presentation, or other materials .

Required Skills /Education/ Certifications & Qualifications: Master's degree preferred or Bachelor's degree in marine science, fisheries, quantitative ecology, oceanography, or similar with 2-3 years of experience
Familiarity with how stock assessments work, particularly understanding the inputs/outputs of assessment models and how the environment/ecosystem can influence stock processes
Experience with data analysis and familiarity with the design, development, and management of relational databases for scientific information
Experience with statistical software, such as R, python, SAS, MATLAB
Experience and understanding of code versioning software, such as Git, SVN, mercurial
Ability to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of stakeholders
