The Head of Project Management Opportunity

The Head of Project Management will oversee our project execution to ensure that we are providing our partners around the world with the field data they need to most effectively legislate, create, manage, and/or advocate. 

You will develop our strategy, provide quality control oversight, and innovate to ensure that Adventure Scientists is the most efficient and effective data collector at scale on the planet. 

The Head of Project Management will oversee a growing team currently at five and report directly to the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Grow, manage, and inspire a world class team to ensure that we over-deliver on each of our project commitments
  • Share our innovations and progress with our board, partners, donors, and the general public
  • Collaborate with our partners, staff, and advisors to elevate our scientific and leadership profiles in citizen science as well as our impact areas (forests, biodiversity, freshwater, climate)
  • Lead and oversee our project management strategy both internationally and domestically and inspire collaboration with international communities through locally adapted approaches
  • Elevate teammates across the organization as a member of our Senior Leadership Team

We are looking for you if you are

  • A logistics expert who has at least 10 years of work experience in field data collection projects domestically and internationally. You have a strong track record of collaboration to build, implement, and/or oversee projects with multiple stakeholders. We are especially interested in experiences collaborating with local and indigenous communities.
  • A motivator who leverages individuals’ strengths and fosters teamwork. You have experience in building, coaching, and mentoring strong teams for high performance and accountability. You set an example for how to give and receive feedback. You are comfortable leading by influence and thrive in a lean nonprofit setting with the ability to stay focused and nimble in the face of growth, change, and uncertainty.
  • A passionate practitioner of citizen science who wishes to elevate the field. You see yourself as a thought leader and are looking for a platform to share the opportunity that crowdsourcing and the democratization of science provides to effect lasting change. 
  • A “big picture” audacious thinker with the ability to implement tactically. You approach challenges and opportunities through an entrepreneurial lens and take a hands-on approach to translating strategy into tangible activities and goals. You bring a creative mindset to field work and do not shy away from trying out new approaches and ways of thinking.

Location and Compensation

This is a full-time position that will be based at our offices in Bozeman, MT. This position will be expected to occasionally travel and work non-traditional hours.

Salary for this role ranges from $100,000.00 to $120,000.00 depending on experience.
