The Land Steward is a field-based position focused on cleaning up reaches of three different watersheds in Ventura County and supporting public access and conservation work on VLT’s preserves. Approximately 50% of this position will involve managing trash Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) contracts with the County of Ventura—monitoring and reporting trash accumulations in strategic sections of the Ventura River, Calleguas Creek, and Malibu Creek, and facilitating their clean up with project partners. The remaining 50% of this position will involve working with VLT’s field team to implement science-based land management and sustainable public access in over 3,800 acres of conserved land in and around Ventura, including biological monitoring of natural resources, invasive species management, crafting informed ecological literacy campaigns through social media, building trails, managing public access infrastructure, liaising with docents and volunteers, and supporting active restoration projects.   This position includes regular interaction with people experiencing homelessness, picking up trash, and working with volunteers.
