Director of Environmental Health & Safety

Summary of Job Details:
The director is responsible for the leadership and development of Environmental Health and Safety, Emergency Management, and Risk Management; for developing, implementing, managing, and continuously improving practices, policies, and programs that enhance the environmental health and safety of our faculty, staff, students, and public; mitigate risks, and meet changing regulatory demands; for the coordination of all risk management activities and supervision of the various campus insurance programs, including worker's compensation, to assure proper and adequate protection for the Regents, a reduction of losses, and adherence to established standards, policies, and legal requirements. Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Design, Facilities and Safety Services (DFSS), the director serves as a member of the DFSS Executive Team. Responsibilities will be carried out in collaboration with academic, administrative, and student leadership, including the Academic Senate, vice chancellors, University of California Office of the President, associate vice chancellors, deans, directors, researchers, Department Heads, Chief of Police, business officers, Campus Counsel, Graduate Student Association, Associated Students, advisory groups, and local, state, and federal agencies, as appropriate. The director participates on various campus and system-wide committees and work groups. This position has a high degree of autonomy and must operate in a complex environment characterized by substantial change. It requires an understanding of the mission, goals and objectives of a major research university. The director is authorized to discontinue operation of any University function or activity when the director determines there is imminent danger to life or health.
Required Qualifications:
• Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
• 10+ years experience managing professional/technical and administrative staff in the field of Environmental Health and Safety.
• 10+ years experience developing, implementing, and measuring the success of major programs in the field of Environmental Health and Safety.
• 5+ years experience providing leadership to diverse constituencies and partners in the field of Environmental Health and Safety.
Special Conditions of Employment:
• Satisfactory criminal history background check.
• UCSB is a Tobacco-Free environment.
Hiring/Budgeted Salary Range: $200,000/yr.-$215,000/yr.
Full Salary Range: $124,600/yr.-$279,800/yr.
Days/Hours: M-F, 8-5
