The School of Resource and Environmental Management (REM) is an applied graduate and undergraduate school in which both social and natural scientists apply inter- and transdisciplinary approaches to research in resource and environmental management. Our mission is to inspire leadership and improve decision-making in environmental management through internationally recognized research, education, professional practice, and community engagement to support a socially just and ecologically sustainable world.
We seek to fill a tenure-track faculty position in Quantitative Fisheries Science at the Assistant Professor rank. We invite applications from Ph.D. scientists who have a strong background in fisheries science and management and/or fisheries stock assessment, with expertise in applied statistics, mathematical modelling, applied marine and/or freshwater ecology, and decision analysis. The successful candidate will contribute to developing a nationally and internationally recognized program of research, teaching, and knowledge mobilization aimed at advancing fisheries decision-making to support sustainable and equitable fisheries. The successful applicant will help to deliver inclusive education in quantitative resource management at graduate and undergraduate levels (in topics such as fisheries stock assessment and/or management, simulation modelling, quantitative methods and software, and applied statistical modelling), and supervise both graduate and undergraduate student research. Interest and experience working across the natural and social sciences will be considered a strong asset, as would an interest in engaging with and including Indigenous knowledge, perspectives, and approaches to fisheries science.
- A Ph.D. and demonstrated research experience in fields such as quantitative fisheries management, risk and decision sciences, applied marine and/or freshwater ecology, fisheries conservation, population, community and ecosystem dynamics, survey design, climate change, or similar;
- Expertise in quantitative approaches, methods, and analyses in fisheries and aquatic sciences;
- The ability to collaborate with both natural and social scientists within academia, as well as with policy makers, practitioners, and communities.
The expected start date is November 1, 2023.
